Filth — our final album — out now.
Collarbones forever.
2007 — 2023

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

An eternal remix of the self.
From project file to listener.
The purge. Just hit publish.

Out now via Bandcamp and streaming services, Total Care closes out my trilogy of sprawling self-released albums, following Mastered (2020) and The Prodigy (2022). It’s a mammoth 60 track, 3 hour double album, containing around 100 sample fragments and many motifs from my previous work.

Recorded between 2013 and 2026, the album primarily draws from my year-long process of releasing one track every week. It’s a living, diaristic archive that marks the end of this freewheeling approach to making music.

Total Care blurs the lines between studio album, mixtape and compilation, capturing the spirit of an expansive DJ set. Most of the tracks were recorded live in one take and barely arranged or altered. Minimal intervention. Flittering between headphone and club music, performance and plunderphonics, experimental and pop, digital and organic ephemera. Ideas are explored, discarded, reworked and returned to.

The album is available on a limited edition engraved alloy USB drive - the very same object depicted on the cover art. You can also wear Total Care on a heavyweight t-shirt. For maximum protection, we have the Total Condom and Toothbrush Care Package.

Total Care is a mindset and a manifesto.
Total Care is cyberpsychosis.
Total Care looks like a memory.

Last post (loosely) pertaining to @jumbo__smash halloween slash “indie sleaze” night that’s on tonight from 9:30pm (really don’t enjoy writing “indie sleaze”). Anyway. The thought of the night got me thinking about the music I liked, listened to, heard walking down rundle mall, danced to at house parties, etc etc etc doing that time. That prompted me to start writing this very half-hearted playlist. I say half-hearted because I spent an hour or so wracking my brain, looking at old media, and so on, meant to spend a lot more time adding to it, then didn’t for 2+ weeks. So this playlist is maybe 1/10 of the length it should be and I’m sure I’m forgetting a whole bunch o shit. I also should be clear that it’s obviously not an ‘indie playlist’ - there are a bunch of other genres jammed in there and also a lot of music that pre-dates the period and even some that’s probably a bit too late. So it’s more just random scraps of music I listened to around that time or associate with it (the extra-genreational selections probably mostly ‘would hear them at house parties). Already realised i didn’t put any bowie in there (let’s say fame, golden years, let’s dance, modern love, young americans), talking heads (many many but at a party I love burning down the house) which I would’ve been hitting hard but I made this by taking screenshots and I really cbf doing that all over again.

Final note that I chose the most jarring novelty song option as the music to accompany this post. Screenshots taken 6:05-6:07pm today.

Last Saturdays Mood Depending tracklist.

Listen back by clicking link in my bio!

Very much enjoyed playing my dear friends @velvettripband who are killing it right now, go check it.

background image is a photo taken by myself of the person whom this show is dedicated to. Baxter was my partner who lost his life 18 months ago to brain cancer.

Baxter was a dj, radio host and artist, mostly he was the finest of selecta’s - he was always the first to be pulled from the house party crowd and pushed onto the turn tables, he knew perfectly how to read the room and play the most varied tracks from the most unknown corners of the world - his taste was second to none.

i feel so lucky we can listen back to him on @balamii radio, and I’d always wanted to play music on air, his passing was a huge inspiration to bite the bullet and start Mood Depending.

So this is for you Bax, as is everything I do.

Thanks for listening!

ok real talk are you a playlist girlie or an album girlie??? 💅

despite the persistent threats to its primacy in the digital age, the album (and its relatives the mixtape, the EP, the compilation, etc) is still the pre-eminent format for music delivery – allowing artists the freedom to indulge their creativity in greater depth, and to make more complex and substantial statements 💽

when they came over our airwaves, which of these eight bona fide ballads caught your ears and held on tight? 🎵 all of them? well you can only vote for one so maybe just choose the one that pays the least rent to live in your brain – maybe it even resides there rent-free 🧠

What's FBi without @collarbonesband? Their music has always dreamed beyond the limitations of genre and songwriting and performance... It has completely defined our sound 🎶 And it all started when Marcus Whale and Travis Cook met on MSN messenger 15 years ago. Five albums since then, each of them named Album of the Week at FBi, acoustic covers in the studio, performing on the Sydney Opera House Steps, Collarbones have pretty much done it all. They released their final album 'Filth' earlier this year so there'll sadly not be new music from them anymore, but Collarbones is forever 🥲
