It’s time to introduce another First Year Blake Scholar—meet Macie Patrias! Born and raised in Fort Collins, Macie is studying Journalism and Media Communication. “CSU feels like a second home,” she says, with lots of family ties and childhood experiences at the university. “CSU has been my past, now it’s my present, and it is the path to my future.” We love that CSU is a huge part of your story, Macie!

From the Globe Theatre to the Bard’s birthplace, this year’s Summer in Oxford, England program brought Shakespeare to life for English majors, minors, and @colostatehonors students! 📚🎭

Students experienced “Much Ado About Nothing” and “Love’s Labour’s Lost” at London’s iconic Globe Theatre, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Stratford-upon-Avon, and a Wild Goose Theatre production of “Macbeth” at the Oxford Castle Prison.

Led by Dr. Mitch Macrae, the five-week program also included a walking tour of London, a visit to the Roman Baths, and a day trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon. Between classes and studying, students found time for additional activities, including paddle-boating on the River Cherwell, museum visits, strolls through the Oxford botanical garden, World Cup watch parties, and a traditional British afternoon tea.

Interested in joining next summer? Learn more about the program in @csu_english’s 🔗 in bio. Group of students and a faculty member posing outside a stone Gothic college gate tower under a blue sky.

Up next? Ms. Isabella (Izzy) Hamner.

Izzy has been an incredible member of our laboratory since before she even started classes at CSU. She was accepted as an undergraduate research fellow in the fall of 2024, and yet continued her research endeavors for the entirety of 2025, and now into 2026.

During this time, Izzy has been an enthusiastic, willing, and driven teammate. She is the first to lend a hand for a project, or offer to help out other undergraduates practice a talk. Izzy is incredibly motivated to not just do the research, but disseminate it and educate the horsemen, veterinarians, and fellow scientists of our findings. She excels during this time - and has won just about every presentation or poster competition she has entered. This includes internal research days, but also international meetings as well - where she took home the prize for top undergraduate presentation at the Equine Science Societies bi-annual conference. Not to mention her Goldwater Scholarship amongst others.

Because of all of this, I have allowed her to submit abstracts to some of our largest conferences such as AAEP and ISER, fully knowing this undergraduate is one to be reckon with.

But it's before and after her talks where she truly is irreplaceable in the lab. She's the first to help set up, moderate, video, and clean up. She also is the first to write her manuscript, prepare her presentation, and ask to do an additional project. Nearly weekly she has a new idea for a study, and it's usually a good one.

So when I try to explain her to people? They laugh and say it sounds like I found my mini me.

I am forever grateful that I will have her for at least one more year, and hope for more as she applies to the DVM/PhD program here at CSU!

Ethan in Ireland 🇮🇪

“I chose to study abroad in Dublin this summer, as I’ve always wanted to visit the country of Ireland, and this was a great opportunity to do so! This summer I am working as an intern at Leinster House (Irish Parliament), working on policy research and development! I’m also studying abroad with my girlfriend, which has been so much fun to have a partner to travel and explore with.”

Ethan is a Political Science major with a minor in Business Administration and did an internship abroad with @eusadublin.

Way to go, Ethan!

We’re kicking off our @socialworkcsu Summer Standout series with @mayaarmstrong_ ☀️

Maya was drawn to studying social work and Spanish through her passion for creating change and her curiosity for different worldviews and perspectives.

This summer, she’s studying abroad in Paris, France through the University Honors Program, exploring the city through an interdisciplinary approach to its rich history.

“There are so many pieces of my studies that I keep coming back to while abroad, because this experience is deeply connected to my values and passions. Viewing my time through a lens of cultural humility has helped me connect social work values and truly learn from other cultures and lived experiences.”

We’re proud to see Maya turning her passions into global impact. 🇫🇷 Person with long red hair standing in front of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, holding a shopping bag on a cobblestone street, with cars, pedestrians, and a cloudy sky in the background.

Tomorrow I leave for the Braver Angels National Convention in Philadelphia.

I'll be joining a group of Americans across the political spectrum who believe our country can do better—and are ready to do the work to make it happen.

Together, we’ll practice courageous citizenship, build trust across differences, and strengthen the confidence that ordinary people, working side by side, can turn the country around.

In my very biased opinion, this is some of the most important work in this current moment.

I aspire to bring about constructive engagement across all kinds of differences in my work at Colorado State University - in the Honors Program and with the Multifaith & Belief Initiatives, as well as in the community with the Fort Collins Interfaith Council. And I'm elated to gather with others this week and learn how to do it better.

I'll be (attempting to) robustly post during the convention, so that many in my circle and beyond can join in.

“The Things You See, The Friends You Make”

Hannah’s photo was the winner of the #RamsAbroad category of the CSU Faculty and Staff vote.

Hannah said “One of the best things about being abroad is the spontaneity. One of my friends texted in the groupchat “Seven Sisters tomorrow?” and then we just went! It feels surreal to be able to just hop on a train and see the things you have only ever been able to experience on a screen.”

What comes to mind when you think of Paris? 🇫🇷

Earlier this summer, the inaugural Paris in Symbols program, led by CSU faculty Catherine Ratliff (English) and Leah Holz (Honors), invited students to go beyond the surface and explore the history, complexities, and meanings behind Paris as an international symbol.

Highlights included a trip to Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur Cathedral; an outdoor garden class session at the Val-de-Marne Contemporary Art Museum; a cultural exchange with students from Télécom Paris, including a student-led walking tour on “Franco-American Friendship”; visits to the Carnavalet Museum, the History of Immigration Museum, and the Arab World Institute; and walking tours exploring Black Paris, street art, and sites of occupation and resistance during WWII.

Students also visited the Palace and Gardens of Versailles, took a Seine sunset cruise, made meringues in a cooking class, and stopped at Point Zero, the official geographic center of France, where legend has it that stepping on the marker means you’re destined to return to Paris. And, of course, students spent time at iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.

Together, these experiences created an immersive look at how Paris shapes the world, and how the world shapes Paris.

Cam even tagged along for the cuisine and views! 🐏 CSU students and faculty hold a Ram flag in front of Sacré-Cœur Basilica, Paris.
