Things I added to my camper van that I wouldn’t want to live without ↓

1. Compost toilet - this has been a game changer because I can park and stay over in a wider variety of places without having to worry where the nearest bathroom is. @compocloset

2. Heater - I added a diesel heater to the van which means I can sleep in it at any time of year and be cozy. I don’t stay in it during the dead of winter typically but I can comfortably sleep in there with the outside temps at 0 degrees Celsius and I’m warm and cozy inside. @eberspaecher.climate

3. Headliner shelf - I added this shelf above the driver/passenger seats and it adds so much storage! My van is shorter than some and the way it’s configured doesn’t maximize storage opportunities so adding this shelf added so much more space.

4. Insulated window covers - I bought fitted window covers for the windshield and two front side windows. These are perfect for keeping the van cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter with the heater on, and privacy. @thewanderful.co

5. Carbon monoxide/smoke detector - I added a combo smoke/carbon monoxide detector in the van (like you’d have inside your house). I just feel like this is an essential safety feature and gives me peace of mind.

6. Extra battery - I bought a portable Jackery battery pack and it’s really nice to have backup power if the main batteries in the van are getting low. @jackerycanada

7. Starlink - I say this begrudgingly because I am NOT a fan of Elon Musk and I don’t want to support him in any way. BUT there isn’t really a comparable portable internet service that I’m aware of. For me it’s a safety feature. I know if I’m in a remote area with no cell service and something goes wrong I can connect to the internet to contact someone for help.

Buying land? Don’t forget to ask the most important question…

Can I legally poop here? 😂💩

A perc test checks whether your soil can properly absorb wastewater… and it can determine what kind of septic system your land can support.

Finding out AFTER you buy could be a very expensive mistake. 😬

And if conventional septic isn’t an option, don’t assume you’re screwed. Depending on your local regulations, alternatives may include composting toilets, biogas toilets, incinerating toilets, or engineered septic systems.

🌱 Before you buy land:
Check the perc test.
Check septic requirements.
Check local codes.
THEN fall in love with the property.

Because cheap land can get expensive real quick. 😂

How we 💩 in our van 🚐 (part 2)

When we were building our van, we did a ton of research on what camper toilet to get and over 2 years later, we’re very happy with the CUDDY.

Having a portable composting toilet has made a huge difference for where we’re able to camp. 🙌

Some of our favorite features:
💩 Liquids and solids are separated
🚨 Indicator light comes on when the pee jug is full
🚮 Solids bin is easy to remove and refill compost
🌄 Lightweight and portable so we can bring it outside
⬜️ Square shape so it’s easy to store and build around

If you’re deciding on a portable toilet, we highly recommend @compocloset

Let us know if you have any questions about the CUDDY! 🚽
