Thank you @burningman for stellar placement.
800' from the man is an honor.

Thank you Annabelle, Peter P, Not Amused, Quest, Maria, Benjamin. The Artery and Artist Support Services are my lifeline. You guys are the unsung heroes.

Thank you Zoia Amadi for being locked in for two years. Our architect is the foundation of our visual communication.

Thank you Jerry Wagley for fabricating my EXACT core pipe design. You're the reason people ask if anything was CNCd. (It wasn't. Have you seen our custom flanges?!)

Thank you Revae Huyette for structural engineering and ease of decision making. Now I can transport this piece myself with a box truck!

Thank you to the goats Dana Albany & Haideen Anderson for being my metal working mentors. For giving me a solid 7 days of uninterrupted fabrication and reminding me I'm actually good* at this. PRICELESS

Thank you Zulu Heru for clearing hurdles and workshopping the entire team. You carry the strength of ten in one.

Thank you Candace Locklear for opening your home to me as your first Artist in Residence. For teaching me how to fish, not just giving me fish. For the Clown Hole and all its wisdom.

Thank you Jen Randle for starting this conversation in 2023, getting me to the Bay, building a camp to support my crew, introducing me to Five Ton Crane and introducing me to the Boxshop! Since the moment I started working there... I met everyone I needed and finally had the space to expand.

Thank you Julia Cortell for looking me in the eyes to say I could raise $30k without a grant. That conversation in 2023 is the reason I believed it was possible.

Thank you Ariel Sutro for saving artists from ruins... time and time again. Whether a functional need or a lesson in whimsy.

Thank you Flaming Lotus Girls for Jeffrey the worm and hands on deck. Margaret, Kyana, Anya, Kathy, Kevin and Kristle. Creme de la creme.

Thank you @espressobuzz for these images that capture the spirit.

If you're ever wondering how TF is any of this possible? It's because of the Bay Area. They doula'd my dream.

You are the Earthworm that found the compost in the soil. This climbable structure invites you to crawl, explore, interact and learn, naturally.

Don’t let the smiles fool you. This dust will humble you. Dust to Dust till Dust…learned new lessons. The good the bad the ugly. Let it Burrrrrn Bb.

Seeing n assisting @r88d of @compost_playground complete her second install on Playa..chefs kiss.

From a drawing on a napkin to now hundreds of thousands of people interacting with it..too many special moments and spirits to count.

Most I’ll keep to self. Dug deep with some real ones.

Lost myself a few times but found myself whole again.

Check out seven projects heading off to the playa from this season’s build at The Box Shop!

Inikadowa by @lynnluzano is a towering 12-foot bird born from memory and myth, feathered with hundreds of Parol lantern panels — the iconic star of Filipino holiday celebration, reimagined as a symbol of ancestral light and diasporic resilience.

Jen Reed’s @compost_playground is a commentary on food waste featuring an oversized climbable Apple Core Jungle Gym. This burn, the Apple Core gets a new, vibrant skin.

Bobby Johnson’s first art car, Iron Butterfly, features 30’ butterfly wings that provide shade during the day and illuminate at night.

@klajdi_tsano ’s Tokens of Zero depicts the burnt remnants of Sequoia trees and is inspired by nature, transformation, and fire.

Pheobe Leung’s @sunnysideup__o__ mirrors the horizon where sun meets sea, capturing the ephemeral beauty of sunrise and sunset and will feature shifting color patterns at night.

Mojca Pacnik’s HOPE ( @art.lotus.hope ) is a metal lotus flower rising from the desert dust and will be illuminated by night. It was completed at The Box Shop after coming all the way from Slovenia!

@danaalbany ’s newest piece is a female figure crafted out of salvaged materials.

Look out for them on playa - and help us congratulate these hard-working visionaries and their crews in the home stretch of delivering and installing their artworks at @burningman 2026!

These last few days were a mountain.

How blessed am I to be exhausted from work I've always wanted.

Meet @r88d Jen Reed is a designer, fabricator, and herbalist native to Louisiana. Her current work, Compost Playground, explores the death/rebirth cycle in relation to sustainability.

@compost_playground - Compost Playground is a growing series of large-scale, interactive sculptures that transform the silhouette of discarded food into immersive, playful environments.

Where kids (and adults) can crawl through giant compost piles and learn about nature’s natural recycling system! You and I learn through play and curiosity. Our intention is to pique interest.”

I’ve watched this project grow, and it’s inspiring to see. @r88d and @compost_playground are almost at the finish line with Version 2 of the Compost Playground. Visit the Kickstarter, learn more about this incredible interactive art project, and support the journey if you’re able. Together, we can help bring it home.

Now, in 2026, artist Jen Reed has been awarded a Burning Man Honoraria Grant to bring the playground concept back with sculptural and aesthetic refinements that solidify the Playa's giant growing compost pile.

We're raising $10,000 to complete the new and improved Apple Core Jungle Gym (approx 12'x16') this summer along with the 1st Teabag Beanbag (approx 4'x5')!

We leaned into the summer by honoring BIPOC, women, and diasporic artists whose work explores cultural identity and sustainability at our eARTh Artist Dinner. Laughter, tears, good food, and the magic you only find in the company of amazing people.
