🥋 MARTIAL ARTS COMBAT — STREET VIOLENCE: THE TRILOGY

🫸☯️👊

There is an important distinction between combat sport and the realities of street violence.

Street violence often involves inequality and disadvantage. It does not begin with agreed rules, equal conditions, or mutual consent.

⚠️ THE THREE CONDITIONS

1️⃣ STRONG vs. WEAK

2️⃣ WEAPON vs. EMPTY HAND

3️⃣ MANY vs. ONE

🥊 COMBAT IS NOT COMPETITION

Street violence may involve:

• Surprise
• Deception
• Weapons
• Multiple attackers
• Environmental disadvantages
• Unrestricted methods

The objective is fundamentally different.

🛣️ THE COMBAT ROAD

📏 DISTANCE & COMBAT

Distance determines what actions are physically possible.

🔴 LONG DISTANCE
Weapons, projectiles and other long-range threats.

🟡 MEDIUM DISTANCE
Kicking and striking range.

🔵 CLOSE DISTANCE
Punches, elbows, knees, clinching, grappling and close-contact actions.

👁️ VISION & AWARENESS

Before technique comes awareness.

In a dangerous environment, awareness includes:

• The opponent
• Movement
• Surrounding people
• Environmental conditions
• Possible additional threats

🎯 DIRECT vs. INDIRECT ATTACK

DIRECT ATTACK:

INDIRECT ATTACK:

🧠 TECHNIQUE vs. STRATEGY / TACTICS

TECHNIQUE:
How an action is physically performed.

STRATEGY / TACTICS:
When, where and why that action should be used.

Knowing how to perform a technique is not enough.

You must understand when it is appropriate, why it is appropriate, and how circumstances change its application.

🥋 REAL MARTIAL ARTS COMBAT MUST BE BUILT AROUND THE REALITIES OF VIOLENCE — NOT THE ASSUMPTIONS OF SPORT.

Martial Arts Combat = Survival

🥋 STREET VIOLENCE — MARTIAL ARTS COMBAT TUTORIAL

Real Martial Arts Combat must be built around the realities of violence — not the assumptions of sport.

Street violence can generally place a person in three major disadvantage situations:

🔴 1. STRONG vs. WEAK

🔵 2. WEAPON vs. EMPTY HAND

🟢 3. MANY vs. ONE

⚠️ COMBAT IS NOT COMPETITION

Street violence provides none of these protections.

A real encounter may involve:

• Surprise and deception
• Weapons
• Multiple attackers
• Environmental obstacles
• Unrestricted methods
• Unexpected distances and circumstances

The purpose of martial combat is SURVIVAL — not winning a sporting contest.

🥊 THE COMBAT ROAD

Man-to-Man → No Weight Limit → No Rules → Full Distance → No Excuses

📏 DISTANCE & COMBAT

An encounter can move rapidly through different ranges:

🔴 Long Distance — weapons, projectiles and other long-range attacks
🟡 Medium Distance — kicks and strikes
🔵 Close Distance — punches, elbows, knees, grappling and close combat
🟣 Extreme Close Distance — direct contact range

Training should develop the ability to transition between distances, rather than becoming dependent on one range.

👁️ VISION & SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
In danger, you must perceive more than the person directly in front of you. Consider movement, surrounding people, environmental conditions and additional threats.

🎯 DIRECT vs. INDIRECT ATTACK

Direct Attack: moves directly toward the target.

Indirect Attack: uses movement, angles, timing, deception or another path to reach the target.
🧠 TECHNIQUE vs. STRATEGY & TACTICS

TECHNIQUE:
How an action is physically performed.

STRATEGY / TACTICS:
When, where and why that action should be used.

🛡️ MARTIAL ARTS COMBAT = SURVIVAL

Recognize the threat.
Understand the disadvantage.
Control distance.
Adapt to changing conditions.
Respond appropriately.
Survive.

🕹️ The new live-action "Street Fighter" movie comes out today. That got us thinking about which character we would want to be in real life.

Who would you choose? 🤔

🥋 NMS — NATURAL MOTION SYSTEMS

Martial Arts & Sciences Tutorial

C.O.M.B.A.T. — Applied Self-Defense Principles

This demonstration focuses on principles and natural movement, rather than memorized techniques.

1️⃣ COUNTER ON MOTION — BEFORE THE ATTACK

Don’t wait until the attack is completed.
Recognize the opponent’s movement and respond as the attack develops.

2️⃣ ANGLE / POSITION

Avoid remaining directly in the attacker’s line.
Change your angle and position to create an advantage.

3️⃣ INDIRECT ATTACK

The response does not always have to travel directly toward the opponent.
Use movement, angles and positioning to create an indirect line of attack.

4️⃣ DELIVERY SYSTEM

Your technique needs an effective delivery system — how your body transfers movement and energy into the action.

5️⃣ SPACE / TIMING / ENERGY

Understand and control:

SPACE — distance and position
TIMING — when to move and respond
ENERGY — how force and motion are received, redirected and delivered

🫸☯️👊 THE PRINCIPLE

Martial arts are more than individual techniques.

Understand the principles.
Understand the movement.
Apply what the situation requires.
