I started my official journey as a performance poet in 2017 but I did not put out my first poetry audio until 2018. That poem, that audio which I put out with so much doubts and questions ended up being one of the core elements needed in fixing a larger puzzle. I can vividly remember how I was torn between writing the work in absolute Yorùbá language or putting it out in English language. I eventually settled for code mixing, a practice which I imbibed in for so long before the call of destiny prevailed and I settled for this path of fulltime Yorùbá arts. Settling for this path was quite unsettling - so much fear of boxing myself, having limited audience or coming off as crude. It is not coincidental that my first poetry audio was titled Orí.

Orí was and is still instrumental in my journey. I've been a recipient of kindness from Ìṣẹ̀dá and even if I need an additional proof, stumbling on this review of my work by Tola Ijalusi in the newest edition of CỌ́N-SCIO MAGAZINE: 'EXSOLVO' [ISSUE 4, VOL. 2], is enough. I put this acknowledgement out whilst fighting tears in my eyes, for how much I've come and the degree of love I've received from absolute strangers and passengers in the vehicle of Ìsánlú ayé. This review is dear to my heart and words will not do succinct justice to my emotions. Grateful to @consciomag for giving home to this generous review.

Seven years later, Orí gets to be reviewed. Seven years later, Orí resurfaces into the conversation. Seven years later, Orí still aligns in my favor.

Orí mi kò ní gbàbọ̀dè.
