What if historic cemeteries could become more than places of remembrance? What if they could become living memorials, thriving landscapes, and civic anchors for healthier, more connected communities? Join me at the @constoflivingmemorials Symposium 2026 on Saturday, October 3, as conservationists, educators, historians, community leaders, researchers, and volunteers come together to explore what’s possible. Throughout the day, we’ll explore: 🌱 Why historic cemeteries matter 🤝 Who will carry this work forward 🏛️ How communities can build lasting stewardship 🗺️ The role of research, technology, and higher education 🌎 How the CLM model can grow across Texas and beyond The day will feature engaging panels, facilitated small-group conversations, a national keynote, and a guided walking tour exploring water retention and flood-management strategies applicable to historic cemeteries. 📍 Texas A&M AgriLife Water & Natural Resources Building | Dallas, TX 📅 Saturday, October 3, 2026 ⏰ 9:00 AM–3:30 PM Come be part of the conversation—and help shape the future of the Constellation of Living Memorials. 🎟️ Register through the link in my bio. #ConstellationOfLivingMemorials #LivingMemorials #HistoricCemeteries #Conservation #HistoricPreservation

💡 👀Underrated conservation multiplier: a great story. Most conservation projects invest the bulk of their budget in boots-on-the-ground work—restoring habitat, improving ecosystems, and delivering tangible results. 🪏🥾 The work gets done. The prairie is restored. Everyone goes home. But what if a professional film crew came along to capture the story? 🎥 What can a great story do for conservation? 📈 Expand impact beyond the project site An excellent project may directly reach a local community, but a high-quality story can reach millions across the state, and around the world. 🌱 Create emotional connection and bridge understanding gaps Facts alone rarely change behavior. People engage with what moves them. Powerful storytelling can inspire action, recruit volunteers, attract new partners, garner investment, and build lasting support for conservation. ♻️ Create assets that KEEP working A professionally produced film can be used again and again in fundraising campaigns, educational programs, conferences, media outreach, and partner communications. That’s why, through our #ConservationWrangler accelerator program, selected projects receive a professionally produced short film highlighting their work. Our team travels on location to document the people and projects making conservation happen. We can’t wait to share the story of Constellation of Living Memorials coming THIS FALL– enjoy this behind the scenes LOOK!

Rudy and I had a wonderful time at the Scissor-Tails and Cocktails event last night at the Trinity River Audubon Center in Southeast Dallas, nestled within the Great Trinity Forest 🌳 . It was a great reminder of the incredible urban wildlife we are fortunate to have right here in a major city. Once an illegal dump site, the land was restored and the center opened in 2008. During the golden sunset hour, it’s an enchanting and  magical place. The reflections of the trees were shimmering on the water, birds were chirping in the distance, and dragonflies were darting past. I watched nighthawks soaring overhead at dusk and spotted a busy beaver in the water, as a yellow-crowned night heron perched nearby. We also met Ginger, a red screech owl, and Wilbur, an American kestrel, from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center. The Audubon center itself is beautifully designed, with architecture that blends seamlessly into the surrounding greenery it overlooks. As a bird nerd and outdoor lover, I was absolutely in my happy place. Now I’m hoping a painted bunting makes an appearance on a future visit!

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Constellation of Living Memorials symposium, a day-long event that brought stakeholders to discuss reimagining neglected historic cemeteries and the connection between conservation and environmental challenges in the region. @constoflivingmemorials Attendees had the opportunity to tour the Texas A&M building and learn about its water irrigation and conservation system, led by Fouad Jaber, a professor and integrated water resources management extension specialist with the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. “Constellation of Living Memorials is not simply a program; it is a model, a recipe,” said Julie Fineman, co-creator of the project. “A way forward that strengthens community bonds, restores ecological health, honors ancestors and reintegrates humanity with native nature.” Read more about this at @dallasnews

I’ve started filming for a full-length documentary project with @constellationoflivingmemorials. Documenting sacred spaces that were forgotten and are being transformed into native wildlife habitats, community engagement and education spaces, and tangible connections to the past. Enjoy some behind the scenes and footage from beautiful Oakland Cemetery, a 47 acre historic cemetery that was inaccessible due to invasive plant growth just a few short years ago!
