“A Whisper of Legs”: A brilliant photographer I recently met @photo.saloon said that about these prints. I love how it beautifully captured the images in words. These are the last of the darkroom prints I made @contactdarkroom. #latergram #darkroomphotography #abstractphotography

When I started on my film photography journey over a year ago, I fell in love with being in the darkroom, seeing my images emerge in the chemistry. I wanted to expand my work from shooting landscapes/landmarks to communities, specifically desis in diaspora. This desire took me to London’s Southall where I observed community so different to what I’ve been exposed to here in the US. Sure, I still need to graduate from shooting folks from the back (lol), but excited so see where this personal project goes as I continue to learn this craft.
Grateful for @contactdarkroom for giving a novice film photographer the space to start work on her dream project. I learned so much during my weeklong residency under the safelights and support of everyone there. More images to come. #darkroomphotography

I’ve been having the most fun working on a project I started at @contactdarkroom over summer, nurtured in my meanwhile studio space, provided by @axisweb, and am now finalising for an exhibition that’s opening in just a couple weeks.

I’m so grateful for all of the support. More details to follow and I just can’t wait!

Had such a great afternoon at @contactdarkroom doing their colour printing workshop, printing some medium format shots by @aubrey____________ . Big thanks to @jakeblack___ for showing me the ropes and it’s pretty inspiring to see what Contact have put together in Totnes - such an incredible resource and wonderful space!

This shot is from a series taken during the recording process of my yet to be released debut solo record. I’ve been holding onto it for a while, but have plans to release very soon! All recorded to tape at the amazing analogue studio world of @pennyarcade_music . Making music in this way and also having film shots and the ability to develop and print in Totnes is pretty amazing. I feel very lucky!

I have a full band show coming up at the @barrelhousetotnes on 4th Sep, supporting @williamtylertn and promoted by @cabaretvoltaireevents

Yesterday, for our Creative Consultation, a group of us went on guided journey through the urban and natural aesthetic of Totnes, focusing on how Totnes feels and the opportunities and barriers felt here among young people. Touching upon what we feel is sacred in our lives and what could be added to help young people navigate the lives they’re just starting.

After we came back to Contact Darkroom and made a collage of what the present and future totnes does/hopefully will look like. The pieces will be displayed at the youth festival happening this Saturday!

There’s still time to get your tickets for the festival this Saturday at the Glade for 16-30 years olds - come along, tell your friends!! (Link in bio) ⚡️⚡️⚡️

It’s a week today people!

The Creative Consultation, for young people by young people, is coming to Contact Darkroom on Wednesday 29th July 11am-5pm.

We’ll journey through Totnes and ponder together what we love about the town, connect to the landscapes and ask - as young people, what do we want to see changed and what change do we want to be a part of?

Returning to the Darkroom, we’ll spend a few hours turning our dreaming and ideas about community and changemaking into a collaborative art piece.

Spaces are limited, so get your tickets soon ! Link in bio ⚡️⚡️

I came to Totnes hoping to understand what made the town special.

Over the following weeks, I found that the answer wasn’t in its landmarks or history, but in the people willing to share their time, stories, and conversations.

Points of Contact is a photographic narrative created during a residency at Contact Darkroom.

Full project at the link in bio.

Tickets are now live! Come Create/Dream/Acetate with us on 29th July!

(if you dont know what this means, come and find out. ;) )

Come along to our creative consultation for Totnes youth (under 30s).
Together we will journey through Totnes… from old quarries, river spots, hidden woodlands and the infamous highstreet. Collectively we will ponder what we love about Totnes, and connect to the landscapes. We will also wonder, as young people: what do we want to see changed? What change do we want to be a part of? What do young people need to be part of changemaking and community building in Totnes?

After our walk, we’ll end up back at Darkroom and spend a few hours turning our dreams and ideas into an acetate art piece. Please, come along no matter your artistic experience, the person writing this (Brad) is no picasso! We will collaborate and support each other to create a collective piece.

Our piece will then be exhibited at the Totnes area Youth Festival and Assembly, which will be held at the Glade, on the 1st August.

Tickets for both events available via link in bio!

These two events form a series that attempts to provide power and possibility to young people in Totnes. We want to hear what is important to Youth in Totnes, and what they need to feel resourced and able to participate in the community.

Please note, anyone from in and around the Totnes area is welcome e.g surrounding hamlets, or even towns, if you have spent/do spend a lot of time in Totnes and it is a meaningful place to you! This is not restricted to Totnesians, but this will be a Totnes area focused workshop. It may even be that you come to this workshop to be inspired by Totnes and make change in your local area or initiate a collaboration or network.

If you have any accessibility questions or needs please reach out comms@transitiontowntotnes.org
