POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A DJ for over a decade, Jay has played at the likes of Glastonbury, Fusion Festival, and FOLD, alongside a growing international schedule. After five years holding a regular slot on Rinse FM, she now also covers for Martha on BBC Radio 1, highlighting new and underground electronic music.

Her sets are rooted in what she describes as “forest techno” – hypnotic, spacious, and dubby at their core, with sudden bursts of high-energy build/release. While 4/4 provides a foundation, her approach is unrestricted by genre or tempo, drawing from leftfield techno, bass, breaks, dubstep, jungle, and beyond.

As a producer, Jay has released on Wisdom Teeth, Neighbourhood, Tectonic, Ghosttown, Faux Poly, and more, with support from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Martha, Jossy Mitsu, and Artwork, as well as airplay across Rinse FM, NTS, and both BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music. Her contribution to Wisdom Teeth’s Club Moss compilation, “Mekosha”, drew comparison from RA to late-era Aphex Twin. She is also co-founder of Erbium Records which reached its twentieth release and fifth birthday in 2025. Through the label, she champions new and upcoming underground artists working across bass, techno, and breaks.

Catch Jay closing down the Attik at our upcoming Halloween party on 31st 👻

Tickets start at just £6 but move fast! Link in bio!!

HALLOWEEN PARTY ANNOUNCEMENT 🎃🧛

We’ve invited one of London’s most on-form DJs, a tech house OG, one of Sheffield’s best parties, and a selection of our favourite local DJs for a three-room takeover of Hagglers Corner with a seriously spooky twist 👻

The Attikk will host a Control. takeover headlined by Jay Carder whose take on deep techno and leftfield bass has been causing a storm recently. She’s backed up by residents Dennis Roswell, Muad’Dib, and Wow & Flutter, while local legend TB-316 of Silicone Carbide rounds off this room’s line-up. This one’s for you if you wanna have it to seriously top tier electro and techno.

The Café will host a Grub Records takeover with Gideon Jackson leading the charge. A true figure of London’s underground, Gideon was there at the movement’s core, pushing vinyl-driven house and techno with serious style. We are so happy to have an absolute legend in the game joining us! Residents Aaron Dynamic and Joi L.F, plus Grub regulars The Doobskins, complete the Grub tech house takeover. SERIOUSLY we have wanted to put something mega on in the café for years, so this will be very special!

Finally, Bar Takk sees a takeover featuring top picks of local selectors we’ve seen come through the doors of Grub this year that have all impressed us with their immaculate vibes. Freddie Grisbi, ObviouslyAlex, Robyn Jade, Miss Sixty, and Norma are going to turn this room into the best spooky house party you’ve ever been to. No genre is safe and no tune is too fun or too creepy.

Happy Halloween folks!!

A lot has changed in the three years since I last saw Radioactive Man play.

Back then, @on__ice__ was only a party or two old, I definitely didn’t feel confident behind the decks, and we were scrabbling around Notts trying to find anywhere that would let us throw a party.

Three years on, I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in some brilliant things in Nottingham and beyond, the city has gained two great new music venues, and after a fair bit of soul-searching (and a lot of hours behind the decks), I finally feel like I’m starting to understand what I’m doing up there.

So it feels pretty nice that this Saturday I’ll be playing after Radioactive Man @control.sheffield at Movers. Set to be a big juan, straight after a banger last Saturday with Felix Dickinson. See you there x

(See the last slide for me and throb at glasto 3 years ago, soak it in)

Local noise makers @bosunsound are returning to the courtyard this Bank Holiday Sunday, treating your ears to high fidelity audio, even coverage, and the lowest of low frequencies. Started two years ago by a group of friends, the crew are consistently tuning and refining their handbuilt soundsystem to achieve the greatest depth and clarity possible. We can’t wait to experience Yu Su through this 🫨

Hope everyone’s well and having a fab week!

Here’s what we’ve got on -

WED 19th / tonight (6 - 9pm)
Album Listening Session

Listening to:

Torch Song - Wish Thing (1984)
William Orbit - Strange Cargo II (1993)
Madonna - Ray Of Light (1998)

FRI 21st
Grub Selectors In-Store (8pm - midnight)

Tom and Riley are two Rotherham-based DJs who have played at a range of events across South Yorkshire, united by a shared passion for underground electronic music. Coming together for this all-night-long session, they’ll draw inspiration from years of collecting records to deliver a set that reflects their individual tastes and shared love for the craft. All night long means no rush, no rules. Just two selectors taking you through the full spectrum of their collections. Deep, minimal cuts, rolling grooves, electro, techno, garage, and everything in-between. A proper journey from start to finish.

SAT 22nd
Hara Discs Launch Party (2pm - late)

This Saturday we have the celebration and launch of a new Sheffield-based record label, Hara Discs. Expect a day and night of techno and prog house sounds from acclaimed DJs, plus the opportunity to get hold of the first release on wax first!

Produced by Grub Records’ very own Harry, the EP is a homage to the late 90s and early 00s TV show ‘Robot Wars’. Each track bears the name of a robot that took part in the wars and is produced from the perspective of that robot. The concept comes from an early fascination with this show and how it made the artist feel as someone growing up in the UK around 2000.

See you soon,

Team Grub x

For our third and final bank holiday takeover of the summer, we’re going all guns blazing with one of the most exciting DJs and producers on the electronic scene right now: Yu Su.

Kaifeng-born but now London-based, Yu Su is a musician, DJ, sound artist, and occasional chef, and one of the most prominent Chinese artists working across the globe over the past five years. Her multiple critically-acclaimed records on UK’s Technicolor (Ninja Tune), Netherlands’s Music from Memory, and China’s own Bie Records have seen her nominated for Canada’s Polaris Prize, and have helped her to develop a devout and passionate following. As a DJ she is unpredictable and idiosyncratic, with her regular veers and left turns making her sets some of the most interesting and engaging around, while always remaining eminently danceable. She is not one not to be missed, trust us.

On support duties in the courtyard, we have Grub regulars and two of our absolute favourites Porter Brook and Ol.G playing alongside Grub honcho Malus. The rest of the Grub team will run things ragged in the shop as always with their unpredictable blend of weird and wonderful pumping dance music, while yet more of our favourites take over Bar Takk in the shape of the Bassfreight collective who have just returned back to UK soil after a few months travelling.

Tickets start at £8 so get em early, get em cheap, and help us ring out the summer with a bang!

Hope everyone is well and excited for the match tonight! 🤞 Since the vast majority of people will be watching, we’re going to close again tonight but will be back open for all your record and wine needs tomorrow evening.

Here’s what we’ve got planned for the weekend -

FRI 17th
WINE’N’B (7pm - midnight)

An exploration of the intersections of R&B, house, and wine.

SAT 18th
Grub 2nd birthday party (6pm, maybe earlier - midnight, maybe later)

Can you believe we are two years old!!! We’ll be starting school before you know it! Come down and help us celebrate with a full line-up of Grub residents. Will there be cake? Probably not. Will it be fun? We bloody hope so!!

Lots of love,

Team Grub xx
