@scenenoise: As part of a collaboration with Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) ahead of this year’s edition, October 21st–25th, SceneNoise presents CROSSFADE, a five-part editorial series exploring the histories, challenges and evolving identities of electronic music across MENA through the people who have shaped each local scene.

The fourth instalment turns its lens toward Morocco: a nation sitting at the geographic and cultural crossroads of North Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic. Positioned as both a talent exporter bringing its rich heritage to global dancefloors and a premier destination in its own right, Morocco exists in a state of dynamic artistic tension. Boutique international festivals set against desert dunes and coastal medinas coexist with hyper-local DIY collectives, independent vinyl imprints, and raw urban basements.

To understand Morocco’s electronic renaissance, one must look at the country’s complex, multi-generational story of resilience, cultural preservation, and a relentless push for artistic autonomy. From the foundational roots of Gnawa lilas and Amazigh percussion to early commercial clubbing and the rise of raw underground basements in Casablanca and Rabat, this feature explores the evolution of a scene claiming its future from the ground up.

Featuring in-depth perspectives from Amine K, Oasis Festival founder Marjana Jaidi, Paris-based DJ and producer Glitter55, Convergence imprint founder Kosh, and the Fragments collective, here we tackle everything from moving beyond Orientalist tropes to navigating rigid visa constraints, late municipal permits, and the urgent demand for permanent domestic venue infrastructure.

“Breaksit” by KOSH from “Back on Track”, September 21, 2025.
.
Born and raised in Casablanca, Moroccan producer Kosh spent crucial years living in the United States, where his deep fascination with early acid baselines and classic Detroit techno truly matured. Since returning home, he has become a leading force in his local scene alongside the Casa Voyager crew. His 2025 release on Craigie Knowes perfectly highlights his incredible versatility. While the EP’s title track is a fierce, club-ready acid journey, “Breaksit” completely shifts the mood. It balances the futuristic, metallic weight of electro and techno with a strikingly warm, human touch. The track is built around fluid, swinging breakbeats and beautifully arranged, widescreen synthesis that feels deeply introspective, proving that dance music can be just as much about emotional reflection as it is about moving a dancefloor.

28.11.25 w/ KOSH (live)

We are honored to bring Kosh’s live show to Italy for the first time.

Born and raised in Casablanca, it’s during his years in the U.S. that his interest in early acid tracks and Detroit techno truly matured. Kosh spent endless hours sifting through records at local stores. From the early classic house labels to the more recent tri-state area techno artists, the American scene has heavily influenced his taste in electronic music.

RA Tickets available at link in bio.

Instock - Comment to get the link! @kosh_212 continues to move at his own pace with his label @convergence_rec

Musically, that’s fast, but output wise, careful and considered, with over a year or more apart between each installment. That’s because creating complex worlds within worlds, which the Moroccan artist has a knack for, certainly takes time. Now a trifecta of releases in, the Enslaved EP serves as his most fine-tuned and liberated project for the label yet.

When I first envisioned the @convergence_rec project, it was meant to be a series of events. Then Covid hit, changed everything, and it evolved into a label. Now, I’m excited to finally bring this project to life and share my sonic vision in Morocco. This first event features one of the most talented artists the Moroccan scene has ever produced: @polysw_tch . We first crossed paths back in 2010-2011 at the iconic B-ROCK (iykyk). He was absolutely crushing it, playing some of the nastiest techno I’d ever heard in Casablanca, at a time when we were just a handful of artists pretending to be DJs. We connected instantly and have remained close friends ever since. It’s a true honor to launch this with him!

See you on November 8th in Marrakech 🫡
