Everybody talks about swim, bike, run.

Nobody gives enough respect to swim, shower, nap. 😂

@formswim handles the swim. @sbrsportsusa handles the shower. And I’ve spent YEARS perfecting that third discipline.

Which one are you going pro in? 😂

In partnership with FORM and SBR.

@stuffjordansays_ was having a miserable Chicago Marathon. Then Cher showed up in her headphones. 🤣

Sometimes the song you need isn’t the one you planned.

What’s the most ridiculous song that’s gotten you through a race?

“I want my daughter to grow up watching women in sport…” - @lucyschodell

Lucy did something that a lot of us talk about doing, she built the thing that she wished existed. @watchwomenssports_irl was created as a way to access women’s sports in her area and across the country as she travelled and realized how hard it was to access women’s sporting events live or broadcasting.

Lucy is no stranger to doing something nobody has ever done before, setting speed records @thespeedproject LALV and so many other incredible FKT efforts and races throughout her running career. This feels like just another evolution of Lucy with this App and we are here for it.

Jason @cooktraineatrace and I @ultrabirch speak so highly of the own women in our lives. Our wives are athletes and my two girls are in sport defining what that is for themselves right now too.

Letting girls decide who and how they want to show up in the world is created by giving them the spaces and the people they can truly look up to.

Lucy has blown the doors wide open on that and the train isn’t slowing down anytime soon!

Somebody sent me a message recently that made me stop and think for a minute.

Which is dangerous because thinking usually leads to me coming up with another idea that Lori has to deal with. 😂

They told me how much being part of our community meant to them.

And I don’t know if they realize how much that means to us.

When Lori and I started building The Everyday Athlete by Run Tri Bike, we had one rule.

Be the people we needed when we were growing up and trying to find our way in this world.

That’s it.

We’re not trying to build a community of the fastest runners, the most accomplished triathletes, or people who have their entire lives figured out.

Good grief. If having your shit together were a requirement, I’d have been kicked out years ago.

We want to build a place where people show up for each other. Where somebody knows your name. Where your goals matter whether you’re training for your first 5K, your tenth ultramarathon, or just trying to figure out what comes next.

And where the conversations don’t end when the run does.

We have learned that people who were strangers can become friends when we stop and listen. Take an interest in and ask questions of…..not because we want something but because we are interested in your story.

And those friendships became something bigger than running.

So I want to ask you something.

Who was somebody in your life who made you feel like you belonged?

A coach? A teacher? A friend? Somebody who probably doesn’t even realize what they did for you?

Tell us about them. Tag them if you want.

Because there’s a good chance somebody reading your story needs to know that people like that exist.

And if we can be those people for somebody else?

Then Lori and I have accomplished what we set out to do.

I warmed up. Nobody said I had to do it well. 😂

Be honest. What’s your idea of a warm-up?

One mile without stopping. That’s what @keenanteresa is working toward.

She came to run club and Lori and Taliah went with her.

I thought we were just having a normal Wednesday. It seems that Lori may have accidentally started a Couch to 5K program. 🤣

What was YOUR first running goal? I want the story, not just the distance.

Turns out you can run with another run club and nobody confiscates your shoes. 🤣

@drlorihauck , @75santino , and I spent Sunday morning with the @hustleandstride crew.

We ran. We talked. We met people. And we were reminded that running communities don’t need to compete with each other to be successful.

Different run clubs. Same community.

The world gets a little better when people show up for each other. Sometimes it’s as simple as getting together for a few miles and some conversation.

Huge thanks to the Hustle & Stride crew for having us. We appreciate you!

What other run clubs should get together? Tag a club that deserves some love. Maybe we’ll show up and run with them too. 🤣

I wasn’t always a runner.

In 2007, I got talked into running a half marathon.

That’s the polite version.

The real version is I got voluntold into it 😂

I had no clue what I was doing. I definitely didn’t know what it would eventually become.

What I do remember is how I felt after that first race.

Like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz.

Also weirdly proud.
Also kind of hooked.

What started as one race turned into a lot more than I ever expected. Running brought me challenge, joy, friendships, perspective, community, and a whole bunch of experiences I never would have had otherwise.

It also helped shape the life I have now.

Run Tri Bike, The Everyday Athlete, the people I’ve met, the stories I get to tell…none of that happens if I don’t say yes to that first half marathon.

Which is wild, because there’s a very real chance none of this was supposed to happen.

I wasn’t always a runner but I’m really glad I became one.

Running friends are a special kind of ridiculous. 🤣

You ask if they want to hang out and suddenly there’s a start time, a route, and somebody wants to know the pace.

My question: does the run count as hanging out, or do we have to sit down and eat something afterward to make it official?

60°F in Phoenix yesterday morning. Basically a polar vortex. 🥶🤣

@drlorihauck , @75santino , Scott and I showed up for the Everyday Athlete Run + Coffee Club anyway.

We ran. We drank coffee. We talked baseball, AI, injuries, dinner tonight and our next run at Goodyear Ballpark on Sunday.

Some mornings we have 20 people. Today we had 4.

Still ran. Still laughed. Still made plans to hang out again.

That’s a pretty damn good Wednesday morning.

Now I need to know: is 60°F perfect running weather or are you reaching for the winter gear? 😂

I went for a trail run and found myself wondering if I was going running or going to work. 🤣

After 19 years of running, 8 Ironmans, 8 100-milers and building a business around endurance sports, I’ve learned a thing or two about a thing or two.

I don’t want fun to have deliverables.

Wrote about it on Run Tri Bike. Link in bio.
