We now live in a crazy world, if you’ve been told this before or have heard it before, better believe it. Let me tell you something that happened this morning, I’ll start from yesterday night. .
My friend Lere and I were talking about life and he was giving me relationship 101 lessons as he was a serial dater so he wasn’t lacking in experience unlike a novice like me who only dates every leap year.
.
Anyways my friend Lere, started talking about his long time girlfriend, they’ve been dating for more than 4 years but as fate would have it, she got a visa some years back and moved to the U.S. She’s doing alright now and they are still pretty close. Last year November, she told my guy that she had started dating someone and they’ve even had sex a couple of times but it wasn’t really serious, just a while away time kinda relationship. She told him to do the same, pending the time they’d be united again. Sounded like an okay plan so he agreed albeit after he vexed about her sleeping with another guy. I remember him telling me that he thinks the relationship was over but as an hustler, he didn’t think too much of it because it was back to paper chasing.
.
They were still pretty close, I think I remember them still talking for about 2 hours last month, laughing and cracking jokes. I swear I never knew Lere was a funny guy because to us he’d always been a greedy comedian, you know those types that laugh more than they tell the joke and you have to laugh too because they’re laughing.
.
Anyways, Lere got a call this morning from his friend Tony (Let me run this by you quickly, Tony also found his way to the US last year November and he was always staying with his friend’s family. The friend was always telling him about a girl he met in 2016 but Tony never met her. He said he’d even proposed and they were getting married this year). Apparently the day she came over, Tony wasn’t home and he couldn’t attend the wedding because it was held in Nigeria.

When Tony sha got pictures, it turned out to be Bisi, my friend Lere’s girlfriend in the US. Tony called to gist about it, he didn’t know my guy didn’t even know she was getting married or even engaged. See gobe!!! 🙆🏾‍♂️

The growing distance between Ade and I was almost unreal but the what really brought a distance between us was our work life, we were both at a stage in our careers where getting those promotions seemed to be all that mattered. It meant we rarely had time for each other and even started seeing each other less and less. Ade would come back around midnight and would be out before the crack of dawn and I was no different. I can’t remember the last time I cooked in the kitchen, it was always take outs. Our marital duties seemed to have flown out of the window and replaced with work and greed. The only time we seem to string a meaningful conversation together was whenever we were talking about the news or progress at work but even that was usually very short.

Mary got her promotion and she was finally able to slow down enough to notice the rot in their marriage. But her efforts were being frustrated by Ade’s constant engagement in his work and preparation for exams rather than her. She told her friend, Olabisi, who had been married for ten years to advice her on what to do. It was Bisi’s idea to start going to the gym, to start clubbing, to let loose and find herself a young or older man but preferably young who’d satisfy all her sexual needs and tension. Bisi said this was the key to the longevity of her marriage. When in truth, she and her husband took a leave of absence and went on vacation together.

At first Mary refused to do such a thing although she did take up Yoga classes at the gym but when her company hired Ebuka, a new exec, she couldn’t take her eyes off him and he didn’t seem to be able to do the same neither. Ebuka was one of those guys you just have to love, tall, dark, handsome with an athletic build and very fun to be around. Somewhat like my husband some four five years ago, maybe that’s what attracted me to him. He was the new toast of the office.

When Ade lost his promotion and also got sacked because the company was downsizing due to the recession in the country, he became even more withdrawn but I couldn’t be caught up in his drama because things were already heating up between with Ebuka.

And equality for all
We sure do know how to be hypocrites
...
When there is no equality amongst a specific gender
How do you expect
Your arguments to be taking seriously
...
We celebrate beauty
We celebrate features
We want equal rights for all
Yet the idea of a size 10
Modeling on a runway is frowned upon
...
Yet for you to be a beauty queen
You have to be a size 0 or of certain heights
And then we classify beauty by size
A fat lady can be called beautiful
But only after she emerges winner of the BBB category
And that is Big Bold and Beautiful
Yet she is forbidden to contest
In most beauty pageants
Unless it’s for her kind
The Big Bold and Beautiful

Size 10 is like a disease
That everyone fights hard to cure themselves of
Panicking at the slightest mention of
...
“You’re looking fat”
...
Because for you to be a Beauty Queen
You must be a flat screen TV
Flat chest, flat ass
Yet it is hypocritical that contestants
End up undergoing breast and ass enlargement
Because being thick is the new cool
...
I’m not here to judge
But I think it’s wrong for society to decide
What’s appropriate or acceptable
Based on their standards of what they find desirable”
