POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Along the dunes in this glowing light, and part four from this walk from Gullane to Eyebroughy – from 18th May last year, a year ago today, when we were still three.

I shared the first three instalments of this walk weeks ago, and part four was meant to follow part three in mid-April. But I hung back on this one, realising that it would soon be a year from the date when we had this walk together.

And here we are, in mid-May. When I first started this rewind series last December, May seemed forever away!

This was one of my favourite walks of last year, and the first clips, as we walked along the top of this dune in this soft light - this is a favourite memory from last year. Watching Raf following Richard as the wind blew the grasses around us, and then later, as Raf was running along the beach in the glow of the setting sun, just so happy.

I was tempted to edit this one shorter, but, as with parts one to three, I want to give this walk space to unfold.

Our first walk in February, and we headed to Belhaven. The low afternoon sunlight was glowing through the woodland as we arrived, and there was a tiny bit of haar in the air, softening the light and making the whole scene feel a little more magical.

We walked along the edge of the salt marsh, looking for a crossing place - as there was so much water - and then continued along the dunes.

The best was to come though. We walked down into the shore - not onto Belhaven beach, as there were a few people around, but on the other side of the dunes, looking over Hedderwick Sands and back towards the woodland at John Muir, and over the Tyne towards Links Wood in the distance. The clouds were reflected in the water left by the receding tide, and, in this soft light, it was so beautiful. Still, quiet, and beautiful.

Hogmanay 2025, and a walk at Ravensheugh and around St Baldred’s Cradle as the afternoon light was fading.

Some of these clips feel a little too low light to share (they’re not quite crisp enough in places), but I wanted to have this walk here.

Our farewell to 2025, at a favourite place.

Rewinding to May, and a really magical evening walk at Yellowcraig. This was May 11th - a late Sunday evening, and a walk timed for low tide as the sun was setting.

I shared part one from this walk at the time, and this one’s been sitting in drafts, but I kept changing the music and re-editing. Anyone else find themselves in this loop with some reels?!

Anyway, Raf was running and running, relishing the freedom of this empty beach, while I was enjoying the cloud reflections across the wet sand.

Join us for a breezy walk that started at Whitesands, heading along the edge of the golf course towards Dunbar.

This was on Saturday evening, when we were in search of a quiet, people-free walk. I was enjoying all these textures along the edge, where the grasses and wildflowers meet the rocky shoreline.

Rewinding to this beautiful sky and part 3 of this walk from Gullane towards Gullane Point and back along the shore.

There was so much to appreciate in this walk: the cloud reflections in the wet sand, the colours shifting in the sky and the sunlight streaming through the clouds over the water, the vibrant green of the seaweed against the rocks… and Raf running and running with joy.

How it started.. and then, this light…✨

I say this often, I know, but Friday’s evening walk at Yellowcraig was *all* about the shifting light. We arrived below a grey and gloomy sky, anticipating rain as we started this walk, but then the clouds started to shift, sunlight breaking through. By the time we were heading back along the shore, the sky was washed with glowing clouds reflecting in the water.

Just beautiful.

Cloudy skies, cloud reflections, and low tide at Belhaven. And this calm.

And this view as you walk over the dunes.

Friday night, seeking the cool of the shore after a warm day at home.

We arrived at Yellowcraig as the sun was setting, and walked through the woodland and across the grassland to the dunes, before heading down onto the beach.

This walk wasn’t as relaxing as it looks as Raf was stressed by (distant) people, and the tide was washing in jellyfish, so we were being a bit cautious.

But the light was beautiful. I can’t believe that we’ve reached the solstice today. It doesn’t feel that long ago that we were counting down the minutes until the sun set after 4pm, and then 5pm... and then the relief that came with the return of evening walks. I’m really not ready for this timeline to start sliding backwards again.

Which is a reminder to make the most of these evenings.

Rewinding to May, and this wide beach at Yellowcraig, with glowing light and cloud reflections across the rippled sand.

And one happy lad running and running…

Run, run, run…

That low tide walk at Yellowcraig, part two, walking back along the shore as the sun was setting.

Look at this light!

Running and recall, and one happy lad.

Sunday evening, and this glowing light at Yellowcraig. We’d thought there might be more people around, and especially campers given the Bank Holiday weekend, but the combination of heavy showers and strong winds had likely put people off and we walked down through the dunes to an empty expanse of beach.

Just beautiful, particularly when walking back along the shore, into the sunlight, and with rain clouds gathering as we got closer to Fidra.
