On June 21, 2025, I asked a few of my musically talented friends to come over because I had an announcement to make. The announcement was, “over the next two months, I’m going to take a hiatus from The TERRELL Show to make an album. The album, An Invitation to the Cookout, Part 2, will be released in the fall and I will sing lead on maybe one (at most two) songs.”

Safe to say…sometimes, things do not go according to plan. Sometimes, things are best when they don’t.

THE PHENOMENON is the best mistake I’ve ever made. I tried to give you a project that you were expecting, but I could not fight the desire to be radically honest with you.

My life changed three or four times during the making of this album. One day, I’ll be confident and comfortable enough to share that during the making of this album, I almost lost members of my family. I also had to take a secret break from making the album to have a major surgery. I also struggled with my faith when I felt like God was forgetting about me...all during the making of this project.

I’m grateful for the gridlock of support throughout these last sixteen months. Family and friends on countless FT calls to help calm my storms. Artists who gave me hrs of sessions, allowing me space and time to express my feelings. Producers and writers who demonstrated such patience with me and safety to try unorthodox things. I am so happily indebted to you all. Thank you for helping bring this ambitious vision to life.

@jflomusic there is no one that I’d rather share this moment with than you. To have you, someone who shares my love for music and “excellence without expectation” is a true gift from God. You are every bit of who you think you are and more.

While the blue wall is a staple of my being, I am blessed to have such a strong and dedicated support that allows me to explore all the layers that make up Terrell Grice. By taking the time to explore THE PHENOMENON, even if just for one listen, you’ve given me new life to continue the fight to shine a beam of light and love on music.
