There are moments in life that you dream about, and then there are moments that somehow become even more beautiful than you ever imagined. Saturday was one of those moments.

Gregg asked me to go for a walk while we were at the sandbar. I had no idea that our family, our friends, and everyone on the sandbar were watching us walk away, waiting in anticipation for what was about to happen.

As we got farther away, he stopped me and spent time reflecting on our last ten years together. His words were so personal, so thoughtful, and so full of love. Then he quoted the lyrics of our song…

“I came to life when I first kissed you.
The best me has his arms around you.
You make me better than I was before.
Thank God I’m yours.”

Then he looked at me and said, “The question is… will you be mine?”

He got down on one knee, opened the ring box, and asked me to marry him. Before I could even process what had just happened, the entire sandbar started cheering. It was one of the sweetest, most unforgettable moments of my life.

As Corey, Jake, and Samantha started walking toward us, the reality that Kaitlyn wasn’t physically there hit me all at once. I turned away, overwhelmed with emotion, and whispered, “I miss you so much.”

Then something I can’t fully explain happened. A wave of peace came over me as I wrapped my arms around the three of them. God gently reminded me that joy and grief can exist together, and that love is never diminished by the ones we miss.

Soon our family and our dear friends surrounded us with hugs, tears, laughter, and so much love. We even shared a quiet, intimate moment honoring Kaitlyn because she will always be part of our family’s biggest milestones.

Later, as Terri looked through the pictures she had taken, it became undeniable to all of us that our Kaity Bird had been with us the entire time. It was one more reminder that love never leaves us.

Gregg, thank you for loving me so faithfully these past ten years. Thank you for choosing me every single day. You have shown me what steady, patient, selfless love looks like. You truly make me better than I was before, and I thank God every day that He brought you into my life.
