- “Boy’s Abyss” is a dark psychological romance drama following our main character Reiji Kurose, a kid stuck in a dying town where nothing moves forward and no one really gets out. Every day feels the same & weighed down by a toxic manipulative mother & a broken home he can’t escape—an obligation to a family that’s already fallen apart. He’s not really living, just existing, slowly being worn down by it all.

- Then he meets Nagi Aoe, a pop idol who seems just as hollow underneath the surface. What starts as a chance encounter quickly turns into something much more dangerous—like finding someone who doesn’t want to save you, but instead understands why you’d want to disappear.

- From there, everything spirals. Obsession, manipulation, and quiet desperation start to blur together. It’s not about hope or redemption—it’s about how easy it is to sink when you’ve already been drowning for so long.

- This story doesn’t pull you out of the darkness, it drags you deeper into it.

- The whole story feels like being stuck in quicksand. Every character is messed up in their own way—his childhood friend, his teacher, even the people who are supposed to care about him. Nobody really makes good decisions, and that’s kind of the point. It’s about how trauma, obsession, and loneliness can keep you trapped in a cycle you don’t know how to break.

- There’s no clean, happy resolution here. It’s uncomfortable, it’s heavy, and honestly… it feels real in a way that a lot of manga don’t. By the end, you’re not asking “what happens next?”—you’re just sitting there thinking about everything that led them to this point.

- Not for everyone, but if you like dark psychological stories that don’t sugarcoat anything, this one hits hard!

Chapter Zeor's March read is Πλάνητες (Planetes) by Makoto Yukimura.

Planetes meaning Wanderers in ancient greek. Its fitting as alot of the group is going into our March read blind. Originally released in Kodansha's Morning, a seinen manga magazine, from Octover 1999 to January 2004. There is a 26 episode anime for this series as well. Which i may just dive into after we finish reading it 🤔

If you havent dived into this classic and want to, now is the best time. The voting on our next series for Chapter Zero has concluded and Planetes won by a wide margin. It was tough to pick cause everything nominated this month were stellar choices! I really enjoyed what I have read of Vinland Saga and have high hopes for Planetes! Can't wait to launch into space!
