Always a joy to wander the Open House Studios @corneliaartsbuilding and catch @rixsketchbook with his paintings and @uskchicago members with their sketches commemorating Route 66. So fun and inspiring to share our travel sketches together and delighted by Adriana’s handmade accordion book, too!! @rk.illustrator #usk #uskchicago #evanstonmade #travelsketches

This weekend Cornelia Arts Building will be having their fall open studio. Come by and help celebrate their 40th Anniversary of being a place where art is made!

There will also be a special exhibit of over 300 sketches of the Historic Route 66 made from dozens of Urban Sketchers between Chicago and Santa Monica.

Stopped by @tomo.kohi in Bucktown to get some stuff done and have a cup of coffee. It’s a weird but good feeling hanging out at a coffee shop and seeing your art on the wall.

The Audacity of Joy
24” x 36” mixed media on canvas

“The Audacity of Joy” finds brightness in the midst of darker, more complicated moments. That little flash of pink holds its own against the deeper color and is a reminder that darkness can be part of the landscape without defining what comes next, and that we can still have the audacity to expect beauty in the life that lies ahead.

This was my 3rd studio. I moved back into the city at the Cornelia Art Building the Spring of 2025. It was a small studio on the first floor with no windows. I was surrounded by so many talented artists and it was so intimidating. I felt like I was pretending to be an artist. It was where I started painting with acrylics and encaustic. I felt like my style was evolving. This was also the studio where I sold my second painting and was able to pay for my studio rent with the proceeds.
