Last Friday, we gathered in strength & sisterhood at Pouring Into Her: Serving Up Hope, a powerful Breast Cancer Awareness event dedicated to education, empowerment, and survivorship. 🎾🎀

We were honored to celebrate 16 incredible breast cancer survivors, women whose courage, resilience, and faith continue to inspire us all. Their stories reminded us that every journey matters and that hope is stronger when shared.✨

Attendees also had access to valuable resources, while our guest speakers delivered life-saving messages about the importance of knowing your body, recognizing changes, advocating for your health, and prioritizing early detection.💕

The conversation is especially important for Black women. While breast cancer incidence rates are similar among Black and White women, Black women are nearly 40% more likely to die from breast cancer, highlighting the urgent need for awareness, timely screenings, and equitable access to care. Early detection saves lives.✨

Thank you to every survivor, speaker, sponsor, volunteer, partner, and attendee who helped create a space filled with knowledge, support, and hope. Together, we are breaking barriers, encouraging proactive health care, and reminding women everywhere that their health matters.🎀

💚💛 HAPPY HOMECOMING WEEK, @norfolkstateuniversity ! 💚💛

This is truly a full-circle moment.

When I came to Norfolk State in 2017 as a non-traditional student, I sometimes struggled with feeling like I had missed the traditional college experience—the dorms, campus life, bonding and even the opportunity to pledge my sorority on campus.

But God had another plan. 🙏🏾

During my time at NSU, I was blessed to work in @nsuathletics under Marty Miller and @nsuadwebb, where I had the opportunity to use my gifts in event production, public relations and marketing. That experience helped me find my place and created a connection to Norfolk State that I will forever cherish.

I graduated in 2019 as a proud Spartan. 🎓🔰

Seven years later, I’m coming HOME to give back to the university that helped shape me into who I am today!

This Friday, I have the honor of producing 🎀🎾 Pouring Into Her: Serving Hope — U.S. Open Edition on the NSU tennis courts as we celebrate breast cancer survivors from across Hampton Roads.

Join us for a FREE community block party featuring live music by @djillmaticbeats, food truck @smackinflames, vendors, resources, photo activations, @couturewinetastingwithstacey fellowship and, most importantly, an opportunity to celebrate the strength and lives of SURVIVORS. 💗🌸

A very SPECIAL THANK YOU to the sponsors and community partners who have already stepped up. Your generosity and willingness to join into this vision mean more than you know. This is what our community looks like. 🙏🏾

Sometimes God brings you back to the very place where you once felt disconnected and reminds you that you belonged there all along.

And THAT is what full circle looks like. 💚💛

🎀 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9 | 12 NOON

Thank you to our distinguished panelists for sharing their expertise, insight, and commitment to uplifting our young men:

• G.A. Brown — Inspire You Counseling
• Eugene Johnson Jr. — School Counselor, PPS
• Korey Drakeford — Clinician, Cornerstone Therapeutic Services
• Fitz Smith — HVIP Director, Sentara Healthcare

We also thank our community service partners, Cornerstone Therapeutic Services and ChainBreakers, for setting up resource tables and sharing valuable information with our attendees.

A special thank-you goes to everyone who attended and to our co-sponsor, Zion Baptist Church, for helping make our inaugural “How to Save Our Young Men” Public Program a meaningful and impactful conversation.

Our greatest takeaway was clear: We must intentionally create safe spaces where our young men feel heard, valued, supported, and empowered—so they do not seek acceptance, guidance, or belonging through harmful alternatives.

This was only the first conversation, but the work continues. Together, we can help our young men recognize their worth, reach their potential, and build brighter futures.
