September 2024 saw the launch of a landmark series of reports, produced in collaboration between top conservation charities, The Wildlife Trusts, RSPB and WWF.
The UK is the first country to map and estimate the amount of carbon stored in our oceans - demonstrating the urgency of stronger protection for the marine environment.
We’ll let Dan, our Head of Marine here at Cornwall Wildlife Trust, tell you more about Blue Carbon and why these reports are important to us here in Cornwall.

!! HUMPBACK WHALE ALERT !! 🐋

Couple Linda and Ryan from @evoceansailing recorded this incredibly lucky encounter in FALMOUTH BAY just two days ago!

These magnificent megafauna are usually only sighted around Cornwall during the winter months.

Some people think the tail slapping seen in this video is communication – whales talking to each other. It is also thought to help stun prey in the water column, or used in dominant behaviour in males.

went to the coast last weekend looking for dolphins, so only had the 200-500 lens with me, no dolphins but I did see this wonderful hummingbird hawkmoth. Faster than dolphins, wings faster than most things in the air..... indeed a challenge to photograph (hand held) as was its namesake. Fabulous to see it however briefly.⁠

Missed so much this last week with the barn owls, great to see how the fledging is advancing at this location, this one being a couple weeks behind my first location

We also observed them tentatively flying short distances around the barn and showing signs of hunting, be interesting to see how the next couple of weeks pan out, to see if they will be refused entry back to barn as time progreses?!
