From green beans to your cup ☕🇭🇹

Roast day at @corocoffeeroom : our Haitian and Ethiopian beans go in green, come out as La Fleur and Lakay, and get bagged by hand.

Every bag funds school tuition and meals for kids in Haiti through @runningrevolutionayiti .

Find us on the shelf at CoRo, or order through the link in bio.

Hey Friends!
La Fleur 🌺 won first place in a double-blind cupping at CoRo Coffee Room, and it’s on their bar right now.
Haitian and Ethiopian beans, light-roasted in Berkeley. Tropical almond, hibiscus, and wild berry in the cup. Let us know what you think!

One more piece of news: Kafe Kreyòl is now Kafe Libète. Libète means freedom in Kreyòl. It’s the same coffee, the same roaster, and the same mission: every bag helps pay school tuition for kids in Haiti.

Come taste it at CoRo @corocoffee

There’s local and then there’s hyper local. Love the collaborative mission of @corocoffeeroom, plus they make a delicious cortado!
Bonus: Discovering this catchy vintage track while standing in line.

CoRo Coffee Room
📍Berkeley, CA

I love how you can see all their beans roasting through the large window inside the cafe straight into their roastery. They also have nice indoor and outdoor seating.

I had their Gesha espresso in an Iced Americano and it was amazing. So flavorful and floral.

I really liked this espresso and I am excited to try their other beans.

Yesterday, I took another bicycle trip to the Amtrak to Berkeley, this time purely for sketching around the East Bay! 🚲 🚊

I feel like I’m starting an unofficial artist residency at The Hidden Cafe where I just sketch it every time I’m in Berkeley. Love this quiet corner 🌳

It’s fun to see how my instincts change over time in sketching the same place 💫

Viks Chaat is so delicious, and it’s right by the Berkeley Amtrak 🚊 🚲

I loved capturing the energy and vitality inside the dining room, complete with happy kids running around 👧

CoRo is also so close to the Berkeley Amtrak, and I love sketching this spot because of its ample natural lighting. I had fun thinking about how to show the brightness of the window. Working inside my “casual sketchbook” here — an A5 @leuchtturm1917usa

Omg this sketch was not my favorite at first haha! And it was a really instructive experience for a few reasons. 1. I realized how much I enjoy sketching even when I’m not happy with the end result. 2. I learned how I can still “rescue” a sketch after the fact. I added tweaks on the train ride home… see the “before” image next.

I wanted to capture the light and heavy shadows. And I learned that I don’t like making people gray! Haha. In my opinion, it makes them look lifeless. Hence I added some fuchsia to them later on (see previous photo), also to balance out the fuchsia of the bougainvillea. 🌺

Side note: I always order Les Oeufs Lucas at La Note, so good. 🍳

This was actually in Sacramento! At the new-to-me coffee shop @rootscoffee.co. I enjoyed my lavender latte and overnight oats while strategizing on capturing deep shadows from the window and the DOCO sign outside. ☕️

What a Return Around the Sun ☀️ it was! I wish I could squeeze all the photos and videos of joy, phone calls where people sang to me, text messages, audio messages, food and drinks folks made me, heart felt conversations, and all the sweet moments into this post, but they only let me put 20 clips! I could not even tag errrbody! So, use your imagination to fill in the blanks and know that my so called chill BIRTHDAY WAS ALL THE WAY LIVE! I’m so grateful to know all of you and celebrate this journey of life with you all! Life is sweeter when we dance 🪩 together! Let’s Dance!🌈✨🥳

Please Stay being fabulous, as loving, and as bright as you all are! You are all stars ✨ in my eyes! I love you oh so much! 💖
