About a year ago, some members of the Turtle Island Ecoversities reunited in Ohlone Territory, Crokett California with Cosmic Labyrinth Ecoversity for a small in-person gathering. They were joined by about 30 participants from over 10 different local projects hosting workshops, talks, live-performances, and activities. The gathering happened in Indy Rishi and Diana's backyard with sweet Saheb as the main cook.

"Free your shit, compost your mind" was one of the main slogans and composting metaphors of the gathering, as Crokett faces major problems with its septic system. The building of a pop-up composting toilet was an active intervention of this gathering, centering conversations around local sewage emergencies in a fun and playful manner.

Some of the activities included learning about the history of indigenous shellmound graveyards in the San Francisco Bay Area, eco-restoration interventions with CREEC, workshops around bioconstruction with adobe, decolonial mapping with the Ecoversities Alliance, embodied hydrologies, yoga, cultural food as medicine with locally sourced ingredients and cooked by participants of the gathering, sound healing journeys, health sovereignty, how to fight energy vampires, cooperative finance models, doughnut economics, playfulness involving local live musicians, dancing, and children becoming organically involved in the gathering activities.

“Focusing and platforming hyper local projects, having conversations that impact the daily lives of people of the territory, hands on labour in service of those projects. Partnering with people locally who are great at networking and building trust in the community. I learned that I love building things and finding solutions to challenges in last-minute situations. I love intergenerational, intercultural spaces. I really enjoy cooking for people and tending to background things versus facilitating and talking.” – sierra allen

Regenerating the LA Economy and Ecology by CA Doughnut Economics Coalition @caldoughnut: in this interactive session, participants will step into the role of “Master Pollinators” to redesign the Los Angeles economy using the Doughnut Economics framework as a creative canvas.

Through a hands-on Bioregional Mapping exercise, we will explore how urban models like CropSwapLA and biocultural restoration can transform neighborhood lawns and public medians into engines of health, equity, and ecological resilience.

Participants will learn to visualize the “Social Foundation” and “Ecological Ceiling” of their own zip codes, gaining a practical toolkit for community wealth-building and leaving with a creative blueprint for an LA where both people and pollinators thrive.

Civic engagement can be regenerative and nature-based. Grateful to @shanellescalespreston for creating pathways to learn about our local government agencies and to get more involved too. Follow the great work that @ebrpd does! They are one of the biggest park departments in the country!
