Count Jaakola, making her Scottish debut, is the solo project of London-based Finnish songwriter Tiia Jaakola. Her debut album Kind Eyes, released November 2025, has been championed by BBC 6 Music’s Stuart Maconie, The Line of Best Fit, Austria’s FM4 and Germany’s ByteFM. Her sound is lush, dreamy DIY pop, where warm keys give way to brooding synths, resolving in the fizz and sparkle of guitars and drums. Count Jaakola, on keys and vocals, is joined live by Paul Rains (Allo Darlin’) on guitar, lap steel and drum machine.

Special guests:

Elsie MacDonald - folk-punk singer-songwriter, offering an introspective view of Edinburgh life.

Midi Paul - Stuttering drums, spliced up disco, wobbly synths and some computer funk...

Tickets available from @ticketsscotland in person, or use the link in the bio. Looking forward to being back @home_edinburgh

Sophisticated Boom Boom, Whitechapel Open May 25 2013. My bonkers performance … Huge thanks to my glamourous friends for partaking in my crazy ideas. ( wish I could still get into that gorgeous striped suit that I got from Spitz market- how i tried to barter down the price) and i hope the rotter who nicked my bag after the performance (with all the make up in and my camera- hence lost all the photo’s! ) got his come uppance. Anyways, crazy lovely times. ( Thanks @raven__row for letting us rehearse in gallery 3 after work)! Thanks to Kirsty Ogg @kirstyogg and thanks to Rodney Graham for selecting me. Ill never forget the shock of that phone call when i was at work: “ Rodney Graham really liked your work” - i nearly dropped the phone on the floor! The reason i entered work was because he was on the selection panel. My film ‘As Tears Go By ‘ was shown in theWhitechapel Open & i performed dolo performance ‘Dance to@Mudic’ at the PV & was commissioned by Whitechapel to also make a new live work for the space which was this . 😘
