POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

If you really know me, you will know that growing up, I spent my summers in Hamburg with my family. Mainly my mother and siblings. My father joined for a few weeks because of his business. Like any place I call home, I left pieces of me here. I had ideas in my head about what this place is and isn’t.

After 11 years, I finally made the time to visit this summer to remember who Ekram was while she was here. To collect pieces of myself that I left here. To possibly understand why I have become who I am today. And to catch some memories with my mother, father and siblings.

A week into this journey, I felt all the feelings. Specially those buried by the young girl who was afraid and excited at the same time. I learned how blessed I am to grow up coming here every summer in a city that is so peaceful and free. Hamburg is known be the beacon of freedom in Europe for having Martin Luther’s protest movement that ushered a direct relationship to God away from papal power. Second it was also known for sexual freedom for having the red light district and legalising prostitution early on. I learned how my family intentionally exposed me from early age to places and people who are so progressive and different. I learned also that memories are stored in the body and only when we go back and walk the same streets and paths, we can feel, and decide how we want to keep or Alchemize the memory.

In this week’s episode on @couragecodespodcast, that comes out tomorrow, I will share more details about my journey here. Please give it a listen and tell me what you think.

‘Much love,
Ekram
