🎙️ Season 3, Episode 3 is live!

Winston Lord is an entrepreneur, advisor, husband, and father of five whose career has been defined by taking on ideas others considered unlikely—or impossible. He helped lead the effort to bring Major League Baseball back to Washington, D.C., later co-founded restaurant technology company Venga, and went on to serve as OpenTable’s inaugural Chief Evangelist following Venga’s acquisition.

Today, Winston is turning his attention toward a different kind of challenge: the growing loneliness and lack of meaningful connection many men and fathers are experiencing. After spending the past year talking with dads from all walks of life about what feels hardest right now, he is exploring the creation of a national community designed to help men build stronger relationships, navigate fatherhood, and feel less alone.

In this episode of The Grit Files, Winston shares the lessons entrepreneurship taught him about rejection, resilience, reinvention, and listening—and why his next chapter may be his most meaningful yet.

“Do I need electrolytes?”

Shoutout to @ashleyyy___marie__ for the question!

The short answer: probably not sodium, but likely potassium, magnesium, calcium, and chloride.

The average American adult already eats more than 3,300 milligrams of sodium a day, and the CDC recommends a ceiling of 2,300 milligrams. A more optimal range would be no more than 1500 milligrams.

Packaged and restaurant foods account for more than 70% of total sodium intake, and electrolyte packets and powders can contain 500- 1000 mg of sodium.

Here are the 3 instances where electrolytes might be necessary:

* Heavy sweating or salty sweating
* Training that is 60-90 minutes or longer OR training in the heat
* Vomiting, diarrhea, illness, or diuretic meds causing fluid loss

I know electrolytes are popular, but that doesn’t mean everyone needs them.

We already get enough sodium in our daily diets. So stick to water for most training sessions and throughout the day and add electrolytes if you fall into one of the 3 buckets above.

Next question…

🎙️ Season 3, Episode 1 is live!

In this episode of The Grit Files, we sit down with Ben Boudro, Vice President of Enterprise Partnerships at Coya Performance for Life, to explore what it really means to perform at your best.

From wearables and recovery data to prioritizing health, Ben shares how his definition of performance has evolved beyond athletic achievement. We dive into how understanding your body, building healthier habits, and investing in yourself can transform the way you show up in your career, relationships, and family life.

But perhaps the biggest takeaway? Better performance isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes, it’s about slowing down. For Ben, faith, family, and finding joy in life’s simplest moments may be just as powerful for improving your well-being (and maybe even your HRV score!) as any training plan or recovery tool.

Because sometimes, showing up better for everyone else starts with showing up for yourself.

Week 2: “Just eat less and move more.” 🤡

Yes, calories matter. But women’s metabolism exists within a much bigger physiological picture.

Chronic under fueling can change the signals your body is receiving—impacting thyroid hormone, leptin, cortisol, reproductive hormones, energy expenditure, sleep, recovery etc.

And we can’t talk about metabolic health without talking about **emotional health**.

Chronic stress, unsafe relationships, emotional abuse, poor sleep, and living in a constant state of fight-or-flight can significantly affect behaviors, appetite, sleep, activity, and the physiological systems involved in weight regulation.

That doesn’t mean “cortisol makes it impossible to lose weight.”

It means that telling a woman who is struggling to simply **eat less and exercise more** may completely miss what’s actually happening in her life and body. Context matters, too.

Women deserve a more complete conversation. Find a provider who can 1) take the time to help 2) refer to someone who can 3) therapy used in conjunction here is ideal
