Last Saturday night, 35 runners stood on the start line in Lovina on the north coast of Bali.

80 kilometres. Coast to coast. 1,500 metres of climbing in the first 24km alone before they ran through villages, jungle and rice paddies all the way to Sesah.

What makes Bali Hope Ultra special is that it’s more than a race. It’s a full week experience. It gives back through fundraising for the Bali @balichildrenfoundation and creates opportunities for disadvantaged communities. It brings together like-minded people from all over the world, and whether you race your heart out or simply soak up the experience, you’ll leave with memories and friendships for life.

To all 35 runners who crossed an entire island on foot, I’m in awe of every single one of you.

A special shoutout to the 13 athletes I had the privilege of coaching 1-1 this year. Aaron, Jack, Craig A, Nick, Matt, Tom, Jayden, Bern, Chris, Meagan, Bec, Kym and Craig L.

Many were tackling their first ultra. Those who had done one before all ran significant PBs.

In the outright top 10, my athletes finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and tied 9th. The outright top 3, my younger brother @aaronbell17 (1), @jackdowland_ (2) and @craigalberd (3), achieved this despite it being their first ultra, and Meagan @megs_moo took out 3rd place female.

The bond between a coach and athlete is a special one. The results are awesome, but what I’ll remember most is watching each of you back yourselves, do the work for months on end, and then cross a finish line in Bali knowing you earned every single step. You trusted me with something that really mattered to you, and I’ll never take that lightly. I’m so proud of you all and grateful to have shared this experience with you 🧡

For the first time ever, Bali Hope is running twice in one year! NOVEMBER is coming and there are less than 10 spots left. If you want in, hit the link in @balihopeultra’s bio. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments or send me a DM. See you in November 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🐎

Reflecting on the trip that was as I sit in the airport today. I have learned so much about myself in the last year since my running journey began, have made strides in trying to become a better person everyday and although there is still work to do I am happy with how far I have come. The determination, discipline & never say die attitude that running has taught me has been life changing. I want to be 1% better everyday and if I slip up I want to take that on board and learn from it.

I want to thank Sean, Steph & my whole family for believing in me. Sean for helping turn my life around when I was in the darkest place and the constant push and guidance that he has shown in me like he does all his runners.

Was so amazing to have my beautiful partner Steph crewing and pushing me on and to see her, Sean, Mum, my aunty & uncle at the finish line was special.

Special thanks to Tom, Vee, Jen, Marg, DJ & Dan for all the organising work with Bali children’s foundation and work done throughout the week! It was a life changing experience, it couldn’t be possible without you guys & I couldn’t recommend it higher to anyone. Feel very privileged to have been able to run and represent such an amazing cause for Bali children’s foundation. Thanks to everyone that donated on my behalf with $4.3k being raised so far and $140k total!

Next year I will be back with Steph as she tackles her first ultra, can’t wait to be by her side for this one. Before that… Termonfeckin half! 🇮🇪

Couldn’t have done this without you Dad 🪽❤️

Still pinching myself, I ran and won my first ultra marathon. That was one hell of a field. Thanks for the great battle out there runners 🤠🫡💪
