POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Even though the cold kept some folks away, we still had a full house for our final show at Windy City Playhouse. The audience was engaged and warm and stood for the curtain call. An incredible final night for our six-show run.

And there’s energy and momentum to mount the show at other venues in Chicago and elsewhere.

Stay tuned here for more on that in the coming weeks!

Snuck a photo from off stage as @jumpymatt was performing as “The Mayor” in the second performance of our sold-out run at Windy City Playhouse.

The reactions from the audience have been phenomenal and moving.

Actor Matt Specht — @jumpymatt — plays Daniel Biss, the mayor of Evanston, Ill. and a candidate in the Illinois 9th District Democratic Congressional primary. Before ICE came to neighborhoods in his city, he was active in protests and was hit with tear gas as ICE agents attacked protesters at the Broadview detention facility in suburban Chicago. “The violence is completely unnecessary,” he said in an interview in October. “It’s a show of domination. I was really shaken by how their purpose seemed to be to show they could do whatever they wanted to.”

The Mayor is one of several Sanctuary Stories being performed at Windy City Playhouse from January 15th to 24th at 7pm. Tickets and more information at the links in bio and sanctuarystories.org

Actor @ambadow portrays The Rev. Dr. Beth Brown of Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church, who has been involved in immigration issues since she arrived in Chicago in 2013. Over time, her church made the decision to be a sanctuary church for asylum seekers.

The work is rewarding, but also stressful.

Pastor Brown’s is one of several Sanctuary Stories in this “living documentary” about immigration, Chicago and the very fabric of America.

Tickets available in the link in bio. More information can be found at sanctuarystories.org

Presented in partnership with @borderless_mag and the Medill School at Northwestern.
