A little bit behind ‘Little Light’ ! 💡

Also shoutout to my amazing co-producer Lilly @creature.and.machine who really elevated this track with the driving bass and percussion; also all the piano flourishes 😍 love working with you! x

You can listen to ‘Little Light’ on the link to ‘Sycamore’ EP in my bio! x

Lilly and I getting v excited (*singing in whisper*) as Enya was in the booth recording violin for the bridge section! She added some gorgeous harmony layers and a little glissando you may hear in the track 🤩😍

A bit of guitar :)

Carys on some verse 2 staccato as Lilly and I are once again feeling the excitement 😆

Some chorus vocals ! (swipe to end for a failed attempt)…

Kleine(s) Licht 😉😂 this year I discovered lilly also loves a bit of German - we would often try to communicate in German as I am trying to get less rusty from my degree & Lilly is currently learning! Poor Carys and Enya were also subjected to our shenanigans 😂

*failed attempt* - cause: giggles [image taken on an old film camera]. Hannah stands with a subtle smile looking to her right, in her usual red/light blue/earthy tweed waistcoat, with white shirt underneath. In the background is a field next to the South Downs. The foreground is filled with twigs and foliage as the image is taken looking through a tree’s branches towards Hannah. In handwritten white text written along a branch, reads “little light” with “BTS & team” underneath.

The next slides are a ‘dump’ on studio moments, featuring Hannah, Lilly (co-producer & mix/masterer), Enya (violinist) and Carys (cellist) involved in the track.

Proud to finally publicly announce that I’ve founded a label, larkspur records 🥳💐🧡

I’ve experienced the music industry from many sides - artist, producer, promoter, manager, fan. Getting to participate in the joy of making music is the greatest privilege of my life…. But the music industry is not an easy place to make a sustainable income, maintain a healthy lifestyle, keep your mental health intact - or to be a woman.

It doesn’t have to be like this, and that’s why I founded larkspur. We are a small artist-led team aiming to quietly create our own corner of the music industry, where we prioritise collaboration over ego, real life over algorithms, and respect over competition.

Our first artist releases are coming very soon - make sure to follow @larkspur.records for updates. Meanwhile, you’ll find us running our intimate gig series @plantshopsessions 🪴🎵 (with some exciting news tba soon over there 🙃)

Thanks for supporting our mission for a healthier, kinder and more open-hearted music industry 🧡

- love & hugs from Lilly (aka @lillytheproducer from @creature.and.machine )

…About the song I released with no context 😂 ‘Little Light’ - the final track of ‘Sycamore’ EP

After starting on melodies and lyrical ideas around themes of redemptive love for this song, I thought to myself, “I think there are too many dreamy romantic songs on this EP!” 😬😂

…and so a different meaning of ‘Little Light’ was born: faith.

I have grown up with the Christian faith and it has helped me a lot during hard periods in my life to put things into perspective and find hope again.

I am still figuring out exactly what to believe or how to have faith again, and this song is about knowing that great hope is out there and trying to push past your doubts to believe it!

There’s a little light guiding you and it’s almost like you’re telling your mind “come on, now, let it in!”; I hope this song might bring some hope to you today! Would love to know any thoughts you have 😊❤️

More on the team behind this song soon! :)

#faith #hope #independentartist (Taken with an old film camera) a picture of some feet (Hannah’s haha) standing on a little wooden path along a field!! Hannah wears old baggy mid denim wide leg blue jeans with worn brown boots, as a budding branch takes the foreground and dappled light catches the foliage around her.

Sycamore BTS / team!!

You may have met Lilly (producer & mix/masterer), Carys (cellist) and Enya (violinist) on prev posts (and they are amazing!!) but also… introducing ‘sycamore’ pianist @eliza_lassman for the first time! Eliza and I met through Lilly as we are both in @creature.and.machine band (v much a family affair 😂🤗) and not only is Eliza a brill at bass & bvs in C&M, but she’s also a fantastic pianist - who some of you might have seen accompany me at my Plant Shop Sessions London show in Jan!! Eliza also improvised an alternative intro (slide 2) to my clunky written one and it sounded absolutely beautiful so we went with that instead! 😍 Eliza always plays so emotively and I’m so glad she could be a part of this track!

In slide 4 Lilly and I get v excited about Enya’s violin recording in the booth but try to contain ourselves 😂

If you’d like to hear ‘sycamore’ with live strings & piano, my first Brighton headline show is coming up on 22nd August (ticket link in bio!) - would be lovely to see you there :)

The room is a wooden floored warehouse studio with vintage furniture around the edges. On the photo, the text in handwritten white writing says “Sycamore” (with a little sketch of a tree) and “BTS & MEET THE TEAM” with swirling arrows beckoning to swipe right.

Ready, Steady…go team!
#indiefolk #meettheteam #violin #cello #musicproducer

After Lilly sent a version through to me, I remember thinking it sounded folkier than I had thought it could sound, and it was exciting to hear this new version! I loved the soft percussion she had put on and especially the piano flourishes she had added - from the high syncopated rhythms in the background of the chorus to bridge’s counter melody and the song’s ending piano notes!

You may have met Enya on previous ‘meet the team’s, and once again she really brought the emotion to each phrase and shaping - just love hearing how she interprets it!!

You may have also seen Carys in previous posts! I love the mellow tone of both high & low phrases Carys does so delicately! The ending where the violin & cello interact at a slower / slightly more free pace is something I loved hearing Enya & Carys do! Standing against some ivory spring blossom, followed by rolling hills of South Downs in the distance, Hannah stands with her right arm across her holding her left. She is looking left, to more hills, with a subtle smile on her face and is in her usual tweed muted red / light blue / orange waistcoat over white shirt and with mid blue denim jeans. Handwritten in capital letters with curvy white text - and placed to follow the shape of the background’s hills - reads “MEET THE TEAM” with a swirly arrow beckoning to swipe right.

Swipe right for some studio strings, vocals & all of ‘Ready, Steady?’! 🫶
#indiefolk #musicaltheatre #strings #behindthescenes

Carys playing the cello beautifully for the chorus parts in the studio!

Video description below :)
The camera pans up from string part sheet music for ‘Ready, Steady?’ to see Carys playing the cello. The studio is muted earthy colours, with a red / blue / beige geometric rug and keyboards in the background.

Hannah’s finger-picking that got scrapped because she couldn’t play it 😂😂 can anyone teach me?!

Video description below :)
Hannah, headphones on, attempting to play guitar in a dimly lit booth!

Turn up the volume for Enya’s beautiful playing of the final soft chorus!

Video description below :)
Inside producer Lilly’s studio. Earthy wooden desk, polaroids in a light wood frame and wires on wall, the studio feels warm and cosy as the video shows a computer screen with Enya’s part recording live, from Hannah and Lilly’s perspective.

Will Hannah ever remember the lyrics to her own song?!

Video description below :)

She is looking left, to more hills, with a subtle smile on her face and is in her usual tweed muted red / light blue / orange waistcoat over white shirt and with mid blue denim jeans. Handwritten in curvy white text - and placed to follow the shape of the background’s hills - reads “Ready, Steady for some BTS?” with a swirly arrow beckoning to swipe right.

‘May’ - meet the team dump!! :)

Lilly - co-production & mix / master:

You may have seen Lilly a lot now on this page! We have a right giggle; she is a great cheerleader and lovely friend and has got to know my voice quite well now so always pushes me vocally for the sound to the best, and most relaxed, it can be! In ‘May’ she added in the lovely synth piano sounds, drums, encouraged all my harmonies, and pretty much just made everything sound better 😂

Enya - violin:

On Technicolour EP too, my friend Enya from my sixth form is finishing a master’s at the Royal College of Music. Her playing is always so expressive, full of my fave vibrato! I didn’t get a clip of her playing as didn’t want to sneak up in the booth window and put her off haha - but we were silently very excited as you can see!!

Carys - cello:

Also a part of Technicolour EP, I was lucky to have made another friend through Enya a couple years ago. Carys is a brilliant cellist doing a master’s at the Royal Academy of Music at the moment. When I’d written a cello line that sounded a bit too busy for verse 2 (along with quite an active violin part), Carys did some lovely double stopped held notes and is always so efficient to work with! Adding those slurs and feeling into the notes is something I loveddd! (Photo taken with an old film camera) Hannah sits looking hopefully at her guitar on a fence overlooking a stretch of fields, on a sunny day - in her usual tweed waistcoat, white shirt and blue denim jeans! Handwritten text on the photo reads ‘May…meet the team [swirly arrow!]’
