^ note: every year our departed & beloved michael k williams used his birthday to share love to start the holiday season. as such, we extend love to celebrate his life & continue his legacy. he is a major reason of inspiration as to why namuhueman was started & today is michael’s 57’th birthday. he was known for his infectious personality, his ability to captivate through the screen, his work within the community in activism & his absolute love for soulful house (to name a few). he choreographed & starred in ‘1oo% pure love’. here he is getting down one hundred percent to the sounds of ‘we will dance again’ from black coffee (soul spun by the great louie vega). we just know he’s dancing peacefully in the next dimension. remember, gone in the physical realm will never mean gone in the metaphysical. yes, gone in this realm but but by us, never forgotten. rest in eternal power michael kenneth williams as we collectively reminisce over you. keep dancing, smiling & shining. also (if you’re wondering about the tune), we have spotify playlists with many goodies like this & more in there, so be sure to click the link in our bio to check out what we have curated for you (more playlists are being added often : all genres). now if you made it this far, thank you! feel free to share our content in your instagram story & tag us so we can show you some love in gratitude.

🕊 In the year since you went to your eternal rest here are just some of the ways we celebrated and honored the work of art that was your life

✨The Newark Reentry corporation unveiled its mural of your likeness and dedication plaque. It was a beautiful day, @dominicjdupont gave a perfect speech.

✨A block party at the Vandeveer housing project on what would have been your birthday. There was dancing, music, speeches, prizes and per your wishes at block parties we fed the community.

✨the memoir you wrote with @jonsternfeld was published and became a best seller!

✨your partnership in “the work” with @crewcountnyc @dana_rachlin continues to defy the odds with her programming. She hustles everyday to carry out your wishes, you would be so proud of her. @nytimes did an article on her work in peace circles and the results of her work have been incredible.

✨This morning I found an old video from April of 2020 when @goli.samii gathered a small group of us for a meditation challenge. There’s a snippet here in slide 3.

I just know we are making you proud Mike✨

Synopsis👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

When Michael K. Williams died on September 6, 2021, he left behind a career as one of the most electrifying actors of his generation.

From his star turn as Omar Little in The Wire to Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire to Emmy-nominated roles in HBO’s The Night Of and Lovecraft Country, Michael inhabited a slew of indelible roles that he portrayed with a rawness & vulnerability that leapt off the screen.

At the time of his death, Michael had nearly finished a memoir that tells the story of his past while looking to the future, a book that merges his life and his life’s work.

Mike, as his friends knew him, was so much more than an actor.

In Scenes from My Life, he traces his life in whole, from his childhood in East Flatbush & his early years as a dancer to his battles with addiction & the bar fight that left his face with his distinguishing scar.

He was a committed Brooklyn resident and activist who dedicated his life to working with social justice organizations & his community, especially in helping at-risk youth find their voice & carve out their future.

Michael worked to keep the spotlight on those he fought for and with, whom he believed in with his whole heart.

Scenes From My Life is the story of a performer who gave his all to everything he did—in his own voice, in his own words, as only he could.

Not sure how else to say it folks. Our democracy is as representative as we make it. There's no GOP hand in this.

PS...@ericadamsfornyc was elected @nycmayor by 13% of registered voters; meaning that 87% of registered voters DID NOT vote for the person who is the Mayor of NYC.

We are asking EVERY supporter of care over criminalization, investment over divestment in our communities and resources and healing rather than punishment and push out to meet us THIS WEDNESDAY APRIL 20th at 12pm at City Hall Park to keep the fight for #PoliceFreeSchools going

A cop mayor and charter chancellor won’t stop the youth from holding adults accountable for the systems they uphold at our expense.

Whether with outright support of policies that hurt us, excuse making in defense of policing or with silence, adults have created the instability so many youth deal with today and are then blamed for.

But the answer is so simple. Counselors. Social workers. Nurses. Sports. Arts. Access to opportunities that are not locked to our performance in a rigged system. How bout some school lunch that tastes good? Soap in every bathroom? AC in our hotbox classrooms for the summertime? Green space? Internships? That ‘ventilation upgrade’ our schools were promised? THATS what the budget should be going toward. Not rolling back bail reform, giving mayoral control even more power and funding stupid billionaire stadiums 🙄🙄🙄

If you agree and are able, we hope to see you Wednesday. If you are particularly vulnerable to Covid, disabled or otherwise unable to join us, we love you and hope you will stand in solidarity virtually by sharing @uycnyc @sbu_power @mrny_ypp ‘s posts all day on Wednesday, tagging your elected officials, emailing them and otherwise holding them accountable to #ListenToTheYouth

#StudentVoice is not for photo ops so @nycmayor and Chancellor Banks can pretend they give a damn. Our ideas could literally save lives and shape futures if they were properly implemented.

So we outside Wednesday, and we hope you are too ✨

Michael K. Williams wasn't just a gifted actor. He was a tireless advocate for criminal justice reform, who partnered with the Brooklyn DA’s Office on a number of initiatives. We're proud to celebrate his legacy in the East Flatbush neighborhood where he grew up in on what would have been his 55th birthday. 🕊
