The weather gods smiled upon @newstead_young_writers_fest once more for their latest festival yesterday - such an incredible bunch of kids, grown ups and creatives all inspiring one another! For such a small community to be able to pull this off is a true testament to their love of books and art, and it’s a wonderful day to be a part of it. My mystery writing workshop was a full house with so many enthusiastic and clever teens 🕵️ 📖 ✏️ Thanks Nelle, Dean and all the team 👏

Weekend musings…disappointed to miss out on visiting my fave bookshops yesterday @escape_hatch_books @thekidsbookshop @little_bookroom for @loveyourbookshopau day. All the photos show it was a fun day. Today however, my love for Aus KidLit has filled me with so much joy as I opened my parcel from the fabulous @kfosterauthor to see my illustrations for the @4asdkidscharity auction that I was the successful bidder on. Yes, I went a little crazy at 11.59pm to get the ones I wanted (tho tbh, there were probably another 5 I would have loved too but you know, budget!🤪🤣) and I am so happy to have these three from @crikeyboy @tony_flowers99 and @yiscahspencilbox Thank you Kate for putting together such a special fundraising event for a very worthwhile charity. Starting my savings fund for 2027!!

5 days to go and if youre still wondering why we make so much noise about this festival and why we think it’s THE BEST PLACE TO BE THIS WEEKEND? Well, because it Arrrrggghh! There are still tickets left for the Golden Ticket workshops but even if you’re a family just coming along to pop in for a few hours it is going to be smashingly good fun, with soooo much stuff to do including meeting and hearing from 20+ authors, browsing books at @squishyminnie building sculptures, weaving, face painting, making zines, scavenger hunt, swapping merch and bookmarks and just drawing or writing poems while basking the central Victorian sunshine, not to mention all this extra stuff I’ve probably forgotten because my brain is fried or that we don’t even know we’re doing yet because we haven’t thunken it up yet! Look out for the rainbow arches and gorgeous artwork (some by my MUM!
I mean come on! And our local resident arty genius @bobclutterbuck who probably isn’t on socials but is in the Ballarat art gallery and also Katie Kilgour who is also not on Instagram I don’t think so HOW can I sing their praises?! But this work will be installed across the site depicting some inspiring scenes from the literary and dramatic arts. Stories under the magic faraway tree? TICK. What else? Oh YES should mention of course that it is kept SO affordable thanks to our wonderful sponsors who have helped to bring this to life 👀 looking at you Newstead Rural Transaction Centre, Community Bank Maldon and Newstead Pharmacy and Post Office and everyone else!!!!!! Come along and witness this spectacular creative village unfurl! #newsteadyoungwritersfestival

💛 MS READATHON

After 4 weeks of reading, fundraising and generally finding any excuse to talk about books… Charlotte has officially finished her MS Readathon with an incredible $3,811 raised!!!! 🎉

And honestly, we’ve had the BEST time doing it. From our daily reading adventures to our very special high tea fundraiser, it has been so lovely seeing everyone get behind Char and make the whole experience so much fun!

A HUGE thank you to every single person who donated, shared our posts, encouraged Char or helped spread the word. The generosity of this wonderful Bookstagram community especially honestly blew me away and I’m so grateful 💕📚

And an extra special thank you to the amazing @penguinkidsaustralia and @allenandunwin teams who shared books for Char to read and for our fundraiser day guests, helping us create the ultimate bookish celebration.

To our family and friends who donated, came along to the high tea, read with us and cheered Char on we couldn’t have done it without you! 💛

But behind all the books and fun is the reason we do this. MS changes lives, including ours, and the money raised helps fund vital support for people and families living with MS, including MS nurses who can be genuinely life changing.

Thank you for helping my little bookworm turn her love of reading into something that can make a real difference. We’re so incredibly proud of her. 🥰
