Make the thing that makes you happiest. Find people who push your craft. And let failure teach you something.

That’s how Dave Laubenthal approaches the creative process, and it’s shaped a career spent turning museum floors into living stories. As former Creative Director of @omsi , Dave built experiences where exhibit design, spatial storytelling, and guest behavior all had to work together, or the whole thing fell apart.

On the latest episode of Cross/Fade, he and Alex dig into museums, mentorship, missteps, and why the space isn’t the backdrop, it’s the thing doing the talking. 🎧

🌹New Cross/Fade episode coming soon: Small Market, Big Swings ⚽️

The crew sat down with Todd Adams, VP of Marketing for the @thornsfc & discussed how you market a small market club with big market energy.

Big-market teams can buy reach. Small-market teams have to earn it — and that constraint is exactly what makes the work more creative, more community-rooted, and more fun.

Speaking of community: we’re teaming up with the @thornsfc and @portlandfirewnba for Love of the Game, an art show celebrating women in sports, coming to the Marks studio Thursday, October 22.

Portland artists, there’s still time. Submissions are open through Friday, 9/18. Form linked in @marks.xp bio.

@dwalk22 doesn’t shut off “creative director” when he leaves the studio, and he doesn’t shut off “world builder” when he sits down at the table. The lines blur on purpose, because you’re creative everywhere, all the time — so why fight it?

The crew debates what the “balance” means in the creative field today. Check it out on YouTube 🔀
