Masters League Games 2026

This year I decided to do something a little different and compete in a 50+ Mixed Pairs team.

And somehow, I managed to snag myself an absolute legend of the CrossFit world — Mr Scotty Webb himself!
The Man. The Myth. The Legend! 😂💪

I’d never competed in a mixed team before, so this was a whole new experience for me.

We qualified through the first round of the online stage ML Open, finished 1st at the ML Invitationals in Round 2, and earned our spot to the ML Grand Final — the ‘Asian Pacific Masters League Games’.

Over three days, we took on 5 WODs, and what a rollercoaster it was! 🎢

We both live by one motto:
“Go hard or go home.”

So that’s exactly what we did.

Even carrying a few little injuries along the way, we never took our eyes off what we were there to do — kick ass and take names! 😜

We battled it out all weekend alongside our fellow @crossfit_northbound_ rivals, as well as some seriously tough teams from NZ and right across Australia.

It all came down to the final WOD. We went into it sitting in the lead, but after one last hard-fought battle, we were stoked to still come away with a spot on the podium and finish 🥉 3rd!

Massive congratulations to Stuck in Low Range and We Finish Together on taking out 1st and 2nd. What a competition! 👏🔥

A huge thank you to CrossFit Northbound and Scotty’s gym, @crossfitdesire, for all the support, encouragement and guidance along the way.

Best partner ever @webby_fitness_for_over_fifties

At the start of the year I was asked if I was interested to partner with a lady to do Masters League even though I had no interest in doing this competition anymore. Obviously I said Yes and I am grateful I did because doing the grand final was okay but getting to know such a amazing person who is honest and is no bullshit is something that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my days.
Sherry Ey(Rooster) you are a champion and thanks for taking this old bloke along for one more ride.
Congrats to Karl,Susie,Anthony and Gina on locking out the podium for representing Northbound and Desire Crossfits.

CAN YOU GET STRONGER WITHOUT A STRENGTH CYCLE?

Absolutely.

One of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit is that without a dedicated, periodised strength cycle, you’re somehow missing out on strength development.

But strength isn’t built exclusively through sets of 5×5 or a planned 12-week progression.

It’s developed through consistent exposure to challenging loads, progressive overload, improved movement efficiency and adaptation over time.

In CrossFit, that stimulus comes from multiple places.

🏋️ Dedicated heavy lifting days.
🏋️‍♀️ Moderate-to-heavy loads throughout the week.
💪 Strict gymnastics and bodyweight strength.
🔥 Challenging workouts that develop muscular stamina and work capacity.

And yes, we still test our 1RMs!

Does traditional periodised strength training work? Absolutely. It’s particularly effective when maximising a specific lift is your primary goal.

But CrossFit has a broader objective.

We’re not just trying to build a bigger squat. We’re trying to build a fitter, stronger, more capable human.

Strength matters. So does endurance, stamina, power, coordination, mobility and everything in between.

That’s the beauty of CrossFit. We don’t have to choose between being strong and being fit.

STRONGER TOGETHER 2026 is coming. 💥

Our annual in-house pairs comp is back and this year we’re doing things differently.

This event brings together members from CrossFit Gym Cartel and CrossFit Desire for a day of fitness, fun, teamwork and community… followed by our Christmas Party. 🎄

The twist?

You don’t choose your partner.

Athletes will register as individuals, and teams will be randomly drawn.
RX will be paired with RX.
Scaled will be paired with Scaled.

We’ll have:
🔹 MM, FF + Mixed Pairs
🔹 RX + Scaled Divisions
🔹 A fun, community-first atmosphere
🔹 Christmas Party vibes to finish the day

📅 Saturday 12 December

This one is all about stepping up, meeting people, backing your training, and being part of something bigger than just a workout.

If you’re a member of CrossFit Gym Cartel or CrossFit Desire, keep an eye out. More details are coming soon. 👀

Train together. Compete together. Celebrate together.

Training like any other day… giving the Service Cup workouts a real, honest, scaled go…

Shuttle runs though… the effort 👀😂

And if you know my circumstances, I am aware.
I’m asking my tinana to come with me on this one.
I believe in it. I trust myself to shuffle. It’s only a few times… and right now, that’s all I can ask of myself ☺️

Because inner strength starts with the conversation you have with yourself first…

What CAN I do?

And most of the time, mine gives me that cheeky little wink… 😉 you know 😆

“Cos I can with what I have. And that is enough” 🤝🏽
Resilience will look different for every one of us. Wherever yours is right now it only has to belong to you…

Wāhine toa 🖤

WEIGHTLIFTING with ‘The Joeys’

One day a week to practice the lifts and drill technique.

Another day to build strength and develop healthy foundations.

Then put it all together on Saturday morning!

If you’re all about embarrassing your teenager, having some good bonding time, then Saturday morning’s might be for you 😜

79% of my 1RM — 55 $$ cha-ching 💸😮‍💨🏋🏽‍♀️

Knee did GOOD catching the load too 🤝🏽Considering sometime last year 60 $$ on a hang power clean pulled my ITB up real good, I’ve been pretty hesitant to start rolling decent numbers back onto the barbell.

So this one felt different. 55kg. Strong catch. Knee happy… 😮‍💨🤭

Rebuilding strength ✔️
Feeding my face for it ✔️ under fuelling is no joke ladies!

Quietly loving myself and the strength to wield it again🥹🏋🏽‍♀️

Cha-fkn-ching 💸
