I have been back home quiet sometime now, yet my mind is still at #KONA2026 where dreams are fulfilled with wonderful memories that created with old and new friends and some celebrities in Triathlon World. This is one of my favorite part of being part of Triathlon community. Having reunion with old friends, making new ones and having fun all together. I always cherish these moments and keep in touch with everyone. 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️🍻👬👫👭🙏❤️🤗

The Ironman World Championship in Kona was the ultimate test of survival.

After placing 1st in age group at Ironman 70.3 Augusta two weeks prior by 12 minutes over 2nd place and 10th at Ironman 70.3 Worlds in Nice, I was confident for a Top 5 podium finish in Kona.

But race day on the Big Island is unforgiving and humbling. After a rough, choppy swim, I felt incredibly strong on the bike for the first 35 miles.

Then, the Kona heat and 84% humidity caught up to me. I fell behind on my hydration early and my body completely locked up.

By the time I hit the climb to Hawi, severe cramps had set in, and my power plummeted. The rest of the race turned into pure survival.

I watched my placement drop from 11th to 50th. My stomach rebelled, and my legs cramped for the entire marathon. I wanted to quit 100 times.

But I thought about Jesus’ suffering on His journey to the cross. I asked God for the strength just to keep moving forward, even if I had to walk every aid station.

To honor the Championship, I refused to DNF.

It was my slowest Ironman ever, but crossing that finish line was one of my proudest mental victories.

To put the day in perspective, 22% of the pros and 10% of the age groupers DNF’d. It was a brutal day for everyone.

I am walking away with so many great life lessons, deeper relationships with my age-group brothers, and a fire to figure out my high-humidity nutrition.

After navigating the hip tear and a long road of recovery the past 12 months, stepping onto that red carpet on Ali’i Drive is a feeling I will never forget.

God uses every situation for His glory, especially when it doesn’t go the way you planned. 🌺✝️

There were some highlights for the week. We had an amazing extended vacation on the Big Island. Leading the FCA Endurance IronPrayer chapel service on Thursday with so many incredible athletes was a massive highlight, and I had some good opportunities to pray with several athletes throughout the week.

Thank you all for tracking me and praying for me. The journey continues with more motivation! 💪🏼🙌🏼

Incredible week in Kona cheering on the athletes in Ironman World Championships, cycling the Big Island and meeting so many incredible people. Leaving for home so inspired to continue training to race the Ironman one day. Congrats to everyone who competed and ran their best race!

THE BEST OF KONA 🏊‍♀️ 🚴‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

The IRONMAN World Champs is hands down the longest single day of coverage as a sports photographer. 4am to 4am you’re hauling scuba gear, long lenses, flying drones, riding on the back of a motorcycle while downloading and editing content documenting the world’s best long course triathletes. At the end of the day your body and brain are trashed and you say to that you never want to do that again. But the challenge of trying to capture the grit of these amazing athletes set against the raw beauty of the island keeps bringing me back year after year.

When I started covering Kona 26 years ago, we used to shoot for print magazine covers, spreads, and large ads. My first Kona I used only slide transparency film on assignment for #Allsport to shoot for the major race sponsors at the time: Ford, Timex, Gatorade and Powerbar and other commercial clients that paid well for good photography. But now we’ve shifted to these little screens in the palm of our hands, and unfortunately quick delivery and quantity is more important than quality. I really miss the larger format to share my work, as you loose alot when you compress 8000 pixels into a 1080 screen. Maybe someday in the near future we can go back to printing these big…

It’s a trip to think I’ve spent half my life shooting Kona, and you never know if it’s the last time you’ll do something until it is. So I am forever grateful being able to cover this amazing race, the inspirational athletes, and the Big Island that feels like a 2nd home. A lot has changed with this race and sport but a lot on the Big Island has remained the same.

Said goodbye to the Big Island today, after a whirlwind 12 days at the @ironmantri World Championship 🏝️

✨What a privilege to be here, to witness first hand the best of the best of our sport compete on the World’s biggest stage and to have the honour of calling so many incredible athletes across the finish line on the most iconic & infamous IRONMAN finishline of them all!

🏆Congratulations to our new World Champions @taylorknibb & @vincentluistri and to everyone who crossed the finishline on race day! The racing was incredible to witness first hand 🔥

✨It’s hard to put into words what it means to be part of the IRONMAN World Championship team, I’ve pinched myself on so many occasions this week, I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of the team and our Ohana (family)

My body & brain are tired but my heart is full, I’m taking home so many magical memories, from the racing on Saturday, to the events that took place before and after the race, to catching up with so many friends from around the world 🫶

Racing at the Ironman World Championship in Kona is a huge accomplishment. Just getting to that start line takes years of early mornings, long training days, and sacrifice, and you did it with grit and heart. Then you went out and raced on the sport’s biggest stage, through the heat, wind, and lava fields.

We’re so proud of you and everything you put into this journey. Take a moment to soak it in. You earned it!

Just wrapped an amazing World Championships in Kona to cap off a very successful 2026 @ironmantri Pro Series season. I’m SO incredibly thankful to @juliapolloreno for trusting me to lead such a large field production team for the broadcast. If I’m being honest, the week was tough and I was stretched, the pictures convey MY highlights, but not necessarily the pressure of pulling it off. I was able to recharge 🏌️‍♂️ the day after BUT Personally and professionally, I feel like I grew a lot this trip. I’ll be forever grateful to the team that pulled it off! Mahalo!!

Huge gratitude for @ironmantri and @protrinews for having me involved in broadcast and content that was world class.

Super happy to see the sport growing and evolving and to work alongside the best to do it - sometimes I have to stop and just try to take it in.
