Under my lens today the @lederertimepieces CIC EinStein 44.

Despite the name, this has nothing to do with Albert Einstein.

“Einstein” comes from the German ein Stein, or “one stone”, and refers to a mathematical problem: finding a single shape capable of covering an infinite surface without ever creating a repeating pattern.

And that is exactly what you’re looking at on the dial.

Each watch uses a different section of this aperiodic pattern, meaning no two dials are exactly the same. But turning mathematics into an actual watch dial wasn’t easy. Instead of simply engraving the pattern, Lederer built it over three different levels, separated by extremely fine walls, giving it real depth while keeping the dial readable.

The two openings at 8 and 11 o’clock reveal what is happening underneath: the Calibre 9012 and its two independent gear trains, each with its own barrel and escape wheel, regulated by two 10-second remontoirs d’égalité and Lederer’s Dual Detent Escapement.

219 components, 3 Hz and 38 hours of power reserve.

I really like the idea behind this one. The dial could easily have been just a spectacular decoration, but instead it follows the same philosophy as the movement: taking an unnecessarily difficult problem and finding an elegant solution to it.

Thanks to mister @mr.davidtekin for letting me shoot this masterpiece

Under my lens today the @k_chaykin SC02C 🚀

There are watches inspired by space. And then there are watches actually developed for it.

Since 2018, Konstantin Chaykin has been working alongside Roscosmos on a research programme with one rather ambitious goal: creating a mechanical chronograph capable of operating during extravehicular activity, outside the International Space Station.

And they didn’t just simulate it.

Experimental versions of the project have taken part in four actual spacewalks, starting in 2021 with Oleg Novitsky, followed by another mission later that year, one with Oleg Artemyev in 2022, and most recently on May 27th 2026 with Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Mikaev.

Each mission provided real-world data, allowing Chaykin to improve the watch generation after generation.

The result is the SC02C.

Its 44mm steel case was engineered to operate in high vacuum, with a specially mounted sapphire designed to withstand extreme conditions. Inside, an antimagnetic cover protects the movement, while the watch itself has undergone centrifuge, vibration, impact, thermal-cycle and solar-simulation testing.

Even the rounded surfaces of the case serve a purpose: reducing the risk of damaging a spacesuit.

Inside is the K.20-5, based on the legendary Poljot 3133 but extensively reworked by Chaykin, including 60 components manufactured in-house, a 12-hour chronograph counter, hacking seconds and additional shock protection.

Only 28 pieces of the SC02C will be made.

And on the last slide, you can see one of the experimental chronographs where it was designed to be: strapped over an Orlan-MKS spacesuit, outside the ISS.

When Konstantin Chaykin says tested in outer space, he means it quite literally. 🚀

Less than 24 hours left before the M.A.D.3 raffle closes on September 7th at 3PM CEST.

Under my lens today: the new M.A.D.3 by @m.a.d.editions , created with one of the true rebels of independent watchmaking, @calabrese.vincent

Now 82 years old, Calabrese has spent more than 50 years questioning how watches should be made. Co-founder of the AHCI and self-proclaimed “troublemaker of watchmaking”, his career has always been driven by one thing: finding another way.

And the M.A.D.3 brings back one of his most fascinating ideas: the Baladin.

Calabrese disliked the brutality of a traditional jumping hour, where one hour simply disappears and the next instantly replaces it. His solution was much more poetic: make the transition itself part of the display.

Here, the hour slowly travels across the dial during the full 60 minutes, while the minutes continue their journey around it. A wandering, progressive jumping hour that feels almost alive on the wrist.

But this isn’t simply an old Calabrese mechanism inside a new case. His original Baladin movements were highly artisanal and almost impossible to reproduce at scale, so MB&F’s technical team completely redeveloped the module from scratch while preserving the original concept.

Inside is a La Joux-Perret G111 automatic calibre, beating at 4Hz with 55 hours of power reserve, housed in a 40mm steel case designed by Eric Giroud.

Turn it over and one last detail slowly reveals itself through the rotating rotor:

“Il est assez aisé de plaire aux autres, bien plus ardu d’être fier de soi.”

A sentence that probably describes Vincent Calabrese better than any biography could.

1,500 blue pieces will be allocated through the raffle at CHF 2,900 excl. VAT.

Not really a reissue, not simply a tribute. More like one generation of independent watchmaking passing an idea to the next.

Good luck tomorrow! 🤞🏻

Under my lens today, the new @berneron Mirage Miroir.

At first glance, you could think Berneron simply opened up the Mirage and flipped the movement around.

But knowing Sylvain’s obsession with making things difficult, that would have been far too easy.

The new Calibre 283 took 18 months to develop, and only around 20% of the components from the original Calibre 233 could be reused. Almost everything else had to be redesigned to create a true mirrored architecture. Not a skeletonised calibre, not a movement simply turned upside down, but an entirely new construction where the mechanics themselves become the dial.

And then there’s the star of the show, the bracelet.

Seven rows, almost 125 grams of 18k gold, alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces, with every single link finished by hand. More than 150 hours of work are required for the bracelet alone.

And honestly, I think the bracelet makes even more sense on the Miroir. With such a busy and mechanically complex dial, having the continuity of a full gold bracelet somehow balances the watch. Instead of adding another contrasting element with a leather strap, the bracelet lets the case and dial remain the centre of attention while giving the whole piece a much more cohesive presence on the wrist.

Even better, the bracelet can be retrofitted to existing 38mm Mirage cases.

The obsession with gold continues throughout the watch. Case, hands, mainplate, bridges and even the spring bars are crafted from 18k gold.

The Mirage Miroir isn’t simply another version of the Mirage. It feels like Berneron took everything that made the original special and asked: how much further can we push it? And somehow, they did.

Under my lens today
The new @bvlgari Octo Finissimo Dual Time X @vianney_halter_official

Three years in the making, this project brings together two very different worlds: the sharp, architectural language of the Octo Finissimo and Vianney Halter’s unmistakable retro-futuristic universe.

The inspiration from his legendary Antiqua is immediately recognizable. Four opaline displays sit like mechanical portholes on top of the Octo’s architecture, surrounded by tiny riveted bezels. Flame-blued hands, black numerals and a small red seconds pointer complete that very particular “machine from another time” aesthetic.

What I also love is how differently the two versions express this collaboration.

The rose gold version on leather feels much closer to the spirit of the Antiqua: warmer, more classical and almost steampunk, it really puts Vianney Halter’s aesthetic at the forefront.

The titanium version on the integrated bracelet feels much more Octo Finissimo: colder, sharper, more architectural and monochromatic.

Same watch, same concept, but two personalities one leaning towards Halter, the other towards Bvlgari.

And they didn’t stop at the design.

Vianney worked directly with Bvlgari’s watchmakers on the mechanics, developing modules around the BVL 138 base calibre. The resulting BVF 200 combines local time, a second time zone, date and day/night indication, while keeping the watch just 9.7 mm thick.

Even the smallest details were taken seriously: multiple sapphire crystals, handmade tiny rivets requiring specific assembly tools and four separate opaline displays.

The result doesn’t feel like Bvlgari trying to make a Vianney Halter, or Vianney redesigning a Bvlgari.

It genuinely feels 100% Octo Finissimo and 100% Vianney Halter.

40.5 mm, automatic BVF 200, 60h power reserve, 30 pieces in titanium and 15 in rose gold.

Personally… I absolutely love it.

Rose gold or titanium? 👀

Under my lens today the @artimecreations ART02 Remontoir d’Égalité, with its incredible gratté dial.

Artime is one of those manufactures where you quickly realize that finishing isn’t simply decoration — it is part of their DNA.

The ART02 is built around a remontoir d’égalité, a mechanism designed to periodically regulate the energy delivered by the mainspring, providing the escapement with a much more consistent flow of torque. A rare and technically demanding complication dedicated to chronometric stability.

But what fascinates me the most about Artime is the level of execution.

Their mastery of poli bloqué / black polishing is simply insane. It is one of the most unforgiving traditional finishing techniques in watchmaking: the surface has to be brought to an extremely precise flatness before being polished until it behaves almost like a mirror, appearing perfectly black from certain angles before suddenly exploding with reflected light.

And Artime takes it ridiculously far: even the buckle is black polished. That alone tells you a lot about their philosophy. No component is considered secondary, and the same obsessive level of finishing is carried from the movement all the way to the smallest exterior details.

Sharp hand-finished bevels, perfectly controlled surfaces and transitions, and an attention to detail that is honestly difficult to match.

Then comes this gratté dial. Raw, almost mineral in appearance, it creates an incredible contrast with the extreme precision and refinement of the movement underneath.

Having handled and photographed a lot of independent watchmaking, I can comfortably say that Artime’s finishing belongs among the very best being produced in Switzerland today and personally, I would even put them right at the top.

Technical, contemporary, slightly crazy, yet deeply rooted in traditional haute horlogerie.

This is exactly why I love independent watchmaking.

Under my lens today something I wanted to shoot since the announcement!! The @balticwatches X @spaceonewatches X @auffret_paris !

The Seconde Majeure might be one of the most unexpected French collaborations of the year, bringing together Baltic’s vintage-inspired approach and SpaceOne’s much more futuristic vision of watchmaking.

And the result is anything but conventional.

Traditional hour and minute hands disappear entirely. Instead, time is displayed through two transparent sapphire discs: jumping hours at 12 o’clock and trailing minutes at 6 o’clock, with the minute indication continuously progressing around its scale rather than jumping.

Above it all, an oversized central seconds hand dominates the dial quite literally making the seconds the star of the show, hence the name Seconde Majeure.

Behind this unusual display sits an exclusive jumping-hour module developed by independent watchmaker Théo Auffret. A central control wheel completes one rotation every 60 minutes before interacting with a 12-tooth star wheel connected to the hour disc. The visible jumper spring gradually builds tension before releasing it to make the hour jump instantaneously, while the minutes continue their slow, continuous progression.

But my favorite detail has to be what sits underneath all of this.

The mainplate is cut from a single piece of maillechort and, on this version, receives Théo Auffret’s signature “Charbonné” finish.

It’s an old decorative technique found on 19th-century precision clocks, created quite literally using a piece of charcoal worked by hand against the metal. The process can take up to three hours for a single plate, creating an irregular surface that shifts between matte and glossy depending on the light.

All of this sits inside a 38.5mm case made from 904L steel, powered by an automatic Soprod P024 with 42 hours of power reserve, and assembled in Paris.

Vintage inspiration from Baltic.
Mechanical creativity from SpaceOne.
And the unmistakable hand of Théo Auffret.

Which one you like the most? The Seconde Majeure Charbonné or the Classic one #watchfam

I had the chance to get the @haute_rive_watches_official Honoris Strato Blu under my lens and I have to say, I’m absolutely in love with this piece.

Limited to only 88 pieces, the Strato Blu is the more contemporary and urban interpretation of the Honoris collection, with a stainless-steel case and a beautiful brushed blue dial inspired by the changing reflections of Lake Neuchâtel.

But the real star is what sits underneath: an entirely in-house movement made of 288 components, offering an incredible 1,000-hour power reserve. Yes, 1,000 hours more than 41 days.

At 6 o’clock, the mysterious flying tourbillon seems to float above the movement, while HAUTE-RIVE’s signature “wheel of time” at 12 gives the watch its unmistakable mechanical identity.

A very unusual architecture, some seriously beautiful finishing, and a watch that looks even better through a macro lens.

Definitely one of those pieces I could have photographed for hours.
What’s your thoughts on it guys?

The perfect combo for a hot summer day in Morocco by the pool. ☀️💦

The @chriswardlondon × @secondeseconde Pool Diver fun, colourful, and pretty much made for this setting.

Definitely one of those watches that doesn’t take itself too seriously… and that’s exactly why it works.

What do you think of this one, #watchfam? 👀
