Last week I decided I wanted to cut my hair and I knew if I was going to make such a big change, I wanted it to have a purpose. So I asked my girl @astrandofbeauty if they partnered with any hair donation organizations, and she told me about @crownsofcourage

After looking into their story, I immediately knew this was meant to be. Crowns of Courage was founded by Ashlyn, who was diagnosed with a rare, life-threatening blood disorder at just 10 years old and needed a bone marrow transplant. One of her biggest fears was losing her hair. Her family discovered a special halo wig made from real hair, allowing Ashlyn to cut and donate her own hair and eventually receive it back as a wig. It gave her confidence and helped her feel like herself during an incredibly difficult time.

Ashlyn’s story immediately made me think of my best friend, Kara, whose cancer journey was similar. Kara was diagnosed at just 16 years old with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a rare type of blood cancer for someone her age. At 21, her CML transformed into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), which is also rare for it to change from CML to AML and ultimately needed a bone marrow transplant.

I’ll never forget the day at the hospital when Kara decided it was time to cut her hair and we had the privilege of being there beside her. I couldn’t be more proud of Kara and the incredible strength she showed throughout her entire journey.

After experiencing firsthand how much a halo wig meant to her, Ashlyn knew she wanted to help other children feel that same confidence, and Crowns of Courage was born. In 2016 they made 12 wigs for children in Arizona and 10 years later they created 1,292 wigs for children in almost every state to provide halo wigs completely free to pediatric cancer patients.

After reading Ashlyn’s story, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just a God thing how everything aligned. I knew I wanted to donate my hair to Crowns of Courage in hopes that it could help another child feel a little more confident and like themselves during such a difficult time.

This hair rocked on many stages, then became bundles for Crowns of Courage, so another star can rock it through life. Give your hair an encore and donate it to a kid ready to rock. 💇🏻‍♀️🤘 🫶
