NEW GIG ALERT! ‼️📯🚨 Crush Zone presents… Nina Garcia (Paris) Crush Zone welcomes Parisian freak-guitar destroyer Nina Garcia (fka Mariachi) on the Manchester leg of her euro tour, in support of her debut solo record ‘Bye Bye Bird’ out on Stephen O’Malley’s Ideologic Organ label… ‘Since 2015, Nina Garcia has been researching and creating around the electric guitar, halfway between improvised music and noise. On numerous stages in Europe and North America, she has played occasionally with Stephen O’Malley, Sophie Agnel, Fred Frith, Antoine Chessex, Louis Schild or with Luke Stewart and Leila Bordreuil’s Feedback Ensemble, in addition to more regular formations in which she participates, such as the ensemble Le Un, mamiedaragon, Autoreverse (with Arnaud Rivière), duets with trombonist Maria Bertel and percussionist Camille Émaille, and the installation piece De Haut En Bas, De Bas En Haut Et Latéralement (with Christophe Cardoen, Jennifer Caubet, Etienne Foyer, Anna Gaïotti and Romain Simon).’ –Arnaud Riviere ‘Nina Garcia has been actively moving the art of noise guitar into surprising and intriguing new spaces. She has been at it for some time now, a bit of a secret weapon all the while hiding in plain sight. As I listen to her music and ruminate upon seeing her perform it brings me to a realization which I have with very few musicians: the ego inherent in making art  can be transcended through a purity of direct action. At least that’s the feeling I have when experiencing Nina’s music which comes across as serious and radical and wholly engaged in the moment of its creative impulse. With Bye Bye Bird she delivers her most exalted and sublime collection of recordings for all adventurous hearts to hear. A fantastic album.’ Thurston Moore (cont. in comments)

***second time posting - it deleted my caption, so I’ll try again :-(***. Firstly, this is one of the most exciting musical projects I’ve been involved with ever and I’m not even in the band! Also, of course, these phone recordings of a bluetooth speaker playing clips of the unmixed, unmastered debut @leuco.tome demo of course don’t do it justice - but I was confronted with / inspired by the same internal/infernal urgency to document this amazing new band as when I heard they were going on a 6 month hiatus due to sister @megan.robinson_ ‘s travels and gnawed at their heels to get something out before the temporary break! This demo was recorded, astonishingly, all live and largely in one take (by me with 0 recording experience with help from @garyrobertfisher without which this would have been much more painful / tedious) and manages to cover so much musical ground, for being the first 6 tracks this band has created in its short life. Evoking early earnest (real) early goth cuts like the first Strawberry Switchblade demo, early Siouxsie + late 70/early 80s NY no wave such as 3 teens kill 4, and German early electronic-rock kosmische. More astonishingly, to me personally, is whenever I’ve brought up a reference point like this, the members deny deriving any influence or having even heard the things I thought they sounded like! It seems like they’ve almost accidentally stumbled into a lot of my favourite musical territory - but it’s no accident - it’s refreshing that such a new band can cover such a broad range of musical territory without having direct references (or at least the ones I thought of), as a stark change to many of fhe 1-obvious-reference copycat bands of Manchester (and beyond). Keep 👀 to skies and ears to the earth for the release of the debut/demo cassette on @crushzonerecordings // @leuco.tome is @megan.robinson_ , @bingham_pseudoplastic , @fionnuala.jpg // photograph taken by me during their farewell (for now) show in their practise space. - Cal
