A Jamaican taught the modern world how to understand culture, media and power 🇯🇲🌍 His name was Stuart Hall. Born in Kingston in 1932, Hall became one of the twentieth century’s most consequential intellectuals and a foundational architect of cultural studies. His work transformed how the world understands race, identity, representation, ideology, media and diaspora. Hall demonstrated that culture is never merely entertainment, identity is never entirely fixed, and media does not simply reflect reality. It actively participates in constructing it. At a time when questions of who is represented, who is misrepresented and who possesses the power to define society sit at the centre of global public life, Hall’s ideas have only become more urgent. The inaugural edition of The ETC Intelligence Collective begins in collaboration with the London-based @cscholarsfoundation, examining the life and intellectual legacy of a Caribbean thinker who fundamentally changed how the world interprets itself. His name should not be peripheral to Caribbean knowledge. It belongs at its centre. This is Stuart Hall. Had you encountered Stuart Hall or his work before today? Tell us below, then share this with someone who should know his name.

Caribbean and Diaspora Youth are building. This Friday, we invite you to show up and celebrate these Next Gen Leaders. From the US and UK to Haiti, the next generation of Caribbean founders is doing the quiet, necessary work, building the ecosystem to power the Caribbean’s future. They are developing tech collectives, scholar networks, creative agencies, and cultural infrastructure. They aren’t waiting for permission, they are actively working towards unlocking potential. By tapping into the power of their cultural identity, they are redefining culturpreneurship, transforming gaps in representation and access into opportunity and functioning systems that will shape Caribbean influence globally. Join us in celebrating the architects of this “Collective Rising”: @caribbeantechcollective (UK) @cscholarsfoundation (UK) @recreatorsagency (UK) @hartscommunity (Haiti) Caribbean Social Studies (Global) Support our young leaders this Friday at 1PM EST / 6PM GMT as we discuss how narrative design, brain circulation, and strategic collaboration are the essential infrastructure needed to unlock the region’s potential. Meet the panelists for our upcoming Diaspora Conversations: Next Gen as Ecosystem Builders panel discussion. Join us on May 15th at 1PM EST/6PM. Link in bio to register. Riann Cato is a financial communications consultant and founder of the Caribbean Scholars Foundation, a UK-based mentoring organisation connecting Black-Caribbean students to the academic support, career pathways and representation they deserve. Of Jamaican descent, Riann founded CSF rooted in the belief that the attainment gap is systemic, not cultural. She places equity and cultural visibility at the centre of every program decision, ensuring Caribbean students see themselves reflected in higher education, corporate spaces and creative industries. Through mentoring, academic support and career development opportunities, CSF is building the infrastructure Caribbean students need to thrive. Riann’s passion for diversity, inclusion and Black-Caribbean advancement drives CSF’s evolution. The foundation serves GCSE and A-level students navigating educational barriers, early-career professionals seeking representation, and a growing community of Caribbean young people who refuse to accept that their potential should be limited by a system that was never designed for them to succeed.

New Diaspora Conversations Panel: Next Gen as Ecosystem Builders: How Diaspora Youth Are Designing the Future of Caribbean Infrastructure A new generation of Caribbean youth across the diaspora is no longer waiting for systems to evolve. They are building them. Through culturpreneurship, storytelling, technology, and community-driven networks, they are creating new forms of sustainable cultural and economic infrastructure. This conversation brings together emerging leaders of Caribbean heritage from the UK, the US, and the Caribbean, each bringing global expertise across technology, education, innovation, and the creative industries. Together, they are designing new models for how Caribbean talent, culture, and ideas are cultivated, connected, and scaled globally. These next-generation founders are transforming gaps in access, representation, and opportunity into real systems that expand visibility, mobility, and economic possibility across the region and its diaspora. This panel is great for creatives, founders, institutions, investors, and young people committed to shaping the future of Caribbean innovation, influence, and ownership. Join us on May 15 at 1PM EST / 6PM GMT for this virtual panel discussion. Link in bio.

The rest are walled off by resorts, protected by private security and locked behind a colonial law that is somehow still in force‼️ Local movements are fighting to take it back.
