#has24 closed last night with a very special event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the song #smalltownboy by Bronski Beat. The exhibition and rave installation opened at @swg3glasgow and the show will run until 20 September 2024.

Against the backdrop of Thatcherism and a conservative government, Smalltown Boy chronicles the journey of a queer individual forced to leave their hometown due to prejudice and discrimination. Through a diverse range of artistic mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, and a live rave installation, this exhibition presents a show of freedom and acceptance. It invites viewers to reflect on the narrative of a smalltown boy navigating the complexities of identity and belonging in a hostile environment.

Central to the exhibition - which was curated by @joehenryart - is collaboration. Artists taking part include Scottish artist & designer Charles Jeffrey, Irish Sculptor James Horan, Poetry from London poet Barney Ashton-Bullock and fine art photography from Scottish / Filipino artist Csian Canave.

On the 40th Anniversary of The Smalltown Boy video we include the original photographs of Bronski Beat from Steve Rapport, which have been painted over from Scottish artist Joe Henry, adding a layer of colour and nostalgia.

Healing Arts Scotland was produced by @scottishballet and @jameelartshealthlab in collaboration with @whoeurope and encompassed over 100 events between 19-23 Aug in cities, towns and rural communities across Scotland.

Launching in Glasgow on 23rd August 2024 at SWG3, the project is a dark yet euphoric tale that delves deep into the experience of LGBTQ+ individuals during a time marked by homophobia and oppressive social norms. Against the backdrop of Thatcherism and a conservative government, Smalltown Boy chronicles the journey of a queer individual forced to leave their hometown due to prejudice and discrimination.

Artists taking part include Scottish artist & designer Charles Jeffrey, Irish Sculptor James Horan, Poetry from London poet Barney Ashton-Bullock and fine art photography from Scottish / Filipino artist Csian Canave.

The exhibition includes the original photographs of Bronski Beat from Steve Rapport, which have been painted over from Scottish artist Joe Henry, adding a layer of colour and nostalgia.

Smalltown Boy launches at SWG3 Zinc Bar on Friday 23rd August at 6pm (Free Entry), continues in the Warehouse (Tickets available in bio)

Thank you to every single person who attended the opening night of the New Photographers Guild exhibition and to those of you who have visited the show over the past couple of weeks, it is so greatly appreciated. I have been overwhelmed with the kindness and sweet comments I have received from family, friends and strangers regarding the exhibition. My wee heart is so full.

A huge thank you to Claire, James and the team at Street Level Photoworks for their incredible support, guidance and encouragement over the past six months, and a special mention to my wonderfully talented fellow mentees!

Our exhibition is on display until the 27th of November, so there is still plenty of time to view the work on display 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
