Meet the Fall 2026 graduating class from Colorado State University's Hospitality and Event Management program 🎓✨ Over the past 3-4 years, these students have built their skills through hands-on learning, industry experiences, and classroom collaboration. Now, they're bringing it all together through their senior capstone event, Colorado Lights & Western Nights. This capstone represents the culmination of their HEM journey, showcasing the creativity, teamwork, and industry knowledge they've developed along the way. More than a celebration, this event serves as a valuable networking opportunity, connecting students with hospitality and event industry professionals as they prepare to launch their careers. Join us in celebrating this incredible milestone and the future leaders of the hospitality and event industry. 🤠💡 Interested in attending? Industry professionals are encouraged to reach out to learn more about the event and connect with our graduating seniors. A formal group portrait of eleven people standing on the stone steps in front of the same building with tall columns and wooden double doors. The group is arranged in two rows and faces the camera. Everyone is dressed in professional business clothing, including suits, blazers, dress shirts, ties, and dress shoes. Unlike the first image, arms are generally lowered in a traditional portrait pose. The symmetrical architecture, windows, columns, and stairway frame the group. The image is brightly lit by daylight and contains no visible text.

🎨 A little creativity can go a long way in leadership. A huge thank you to Jen Taranow, @sketchy.jen for guiding our HEM 450 Leadership class through a Zentangle art experience! The exercise gave us a chance to slow down, relax, and quiet our minds, an important practice for leaders navigating busy days and big responsibilities. We had a blast learning from the amazing Jen and taking time to create together. 💚

🐏 Meet Fermentation and Food Science Ram, JC Julien! After getting into homebrewing, JC decided to turn his passion for fermentation into a new career path. He found that CSU’s Fermentation and Food Science program offered just what he was looking for: valuable industry knowledge and meaningful connections. Get to know JC and learn more about his journey in this Q&A 👇 Q; What does FSHN and your major mean to you? A: For me, it is a way to follow my passion. I get to do what I love and learn more about it every day. Q: How have you gotten involved with FSHN and your major? A: I am one of the brewing interns in fermentation science here. I started getting involved in brew days pretty early on and became an intern through that. While I brew a lot, I spend much more time cleaning and making sure that our beer is fermenting properly. I also help out with serving beer at a lot of our events. Q: What communities or industries do you hope to positively impact after graduation? A: I would like to go into the brewing industry, and I would also like to stay in Fort Collins after graduation. Q: What has been your favorite CSU experience? A: Personally I love brew days. I get to learn more about making beer and get to hang out with the professors and other students while I do so. You don't just get to learn, you get to know people better. Leadership isn’t always learned behind a desk. The Leadership in Hospitality class traded the classroom for the mat at Jeff Callaway’s jujitsu gym. Students learned self-defense techniques while exploring key leadership skills like confidence, awareness, and adaptability. Because great leaders know how to take on challenges, support others, and occasionally step outside their comfort zone. Huge thank you to FSHN Professor Jeff at FoCo BJJ for hosting us & teaching us useful skills!!

Getting to share more about the teaching within the HEM major and answering people’s questions at this year’s teaching colloquium was a really fun experience. People always seemed impressed by how much we enjoy the program and how passionate we are about what we do in and outside of the classroom. Sharing our experience was especially cool because it gave us a chance to talk about our experiences and show others what makes HEM so unique. I also really enjoyed getting to connect with people outside of our major. Reaching out to community members is important because it helps build relationships between students, local businesses, and the university. I love that HEM gives us opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom and support the local community. Being able to represent the program and share why we enjoy it so much made me appreciate being a part of HEM even more. -Theo Chalecki
