👩‍⚕️ Instead of banning AI in the classroom, two of our School of Nursing faculty, Kate Bayhan and Asma Taha, used it as a tool. They had nursing students prompt AI, then study the bias in what it gave back, so they learn to catch that same bias before it ever reaches a patient. 🏥

Their research builds what every nurse needs: 💻 digital literacy, 🤝 cultural humility, and ❤️ health equity.

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing CalState University, Fullerton School of Nursing students who spent the day with us at #WISEPlaceonBroadway! 💜 Led by Associate Professor Austin Nation, they hosted a bilingual “Healthy Heart, Healthy Life” workshop and offered free health screenings to our participants. Their kindness and expertise brought so much care into our space. @csufson

On Wednesday, I hosted a Nutrition Literacy Workshop at the Sunkist Library Branch. Thank you to the Cal State Fullerton School of Nursing students who planned and presented the workshop as part of their community assessment of Anaheim. They shared practical information on reading nutrition labels, making healthy choices on a budget, and understanding how small changes can make a difference. 🍎

As a Cal State Fullerton Public Health graduate, it was great working with fellow Titans. I appreciate the time and effort they put into this project, and I look forward to continuing to work together toward a healthier Anaheim. 🌳

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the workshop, and to the Sunkist Library staff for helping make the event possible.

👏 A national first for the School of Nursing.

Congratulations to Mark Gabot — the FIRST Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the country to be named a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). It’s a distinction that has historically gone to physicians, making this a historic moment for the entire nurse anesthesia profession.

Gabot teaches in our nursing-anesthesia doctoral program (offered with the Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia and ranked No. 1 in California by U.S. News), where he built a point-of-care ultrasound curriculum training the next generation of CRNAs.

In his words: “As the first CRNA to achieve FASE, I hope this recognition inspires other CRNAs to pursue advanced ultrasound training.”

Congratulations, Mark 🧡💙

🫀✨ The 4 Cardinal Views of POC-TEE ✨🫀

Point-of-care transesophageal echocardiography (POC-TEE) provides rapid, real-time hemodynamic assessment when every second counts. By mastering just 4 essential views, clinicians can quickly evaluate cardiac function and identify life-threatening conditions.

📍 Mid-Esophageal 4-Chamber
➡️ Assesses left and right ventricular size and function

📍 Mid-Esophageal Long-Axis
➡️ Evaluates LV contractility, aortic valve, and LVOT flow

📍 Mid-Esophageal Bicaval
➡️ Visualizes venous return to the right atrium and aids procedural guidance

📍 Transgastric Short-Axis
➡️ Provides a powerful assessment of LV function, volume status, and regional wall motion

Together, these four views can help identify:
✅ Left ventricular dysfunction
✅ Right ventricular dysfunction (including findings suggestive of PE)
✅ Hypovolemia
✅ Pericardial effusion/tamponade
✅ Gross structural abnormalities

🎯 Simple. Focused. Actionable.

POC-TEE is not comprehensive echocardiography—it is a goal-directed examination designed to answer critical clinical questions and support timely decision-making in the OR, ICU, and emergency settings. 🫀📈🔍

Proud is an understatement. 👏🎓

The KPSA/CSUF Class of 2026 has officially completed an incredible milestone in their DNP journey: project dissemination.

This cohort shared their scholarship across multiple local, regional, and national venues, including:
✨ Western Summit for Nurse Anesthesiology
✨ KPSA Dissemination Day
✨ KPNAA Winter Conference
✨ APU Nursing Research Symposium
✨ CSUF HHD Student Research Showcase
✨ Western Institute of Nursing (WIN)
✨ AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo
✨ Iowa Healthcare National Evidence-Based Practice Conference

And along the way, their work was recognized for excellence, earning two awards in the Community Category at the APU Nursing Research Symposium 🏆🏆 and a Poster Award at the Iowa Healthcare National Evidence-Based Practice Conference 🏅

Dissemination is more than presenting a project—it is about translating evidence into practice, improving outcomes, and contributing to the future of healthcare and nurse anesthesiology.

Watching our SRNAs present podiums and posters, engage in scholarly dialogue, and represent our program with professionalism has been incredibly rewarding. Behind every presentation were countless hours of literature review, implementation, revisions, and perseverance.

To the Class of 2026: thank you for your dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence. Your work matters, and your impact is already being felt. We are incredibly proud of you and excited for what comes next. 💙🩺📚
