Job Talk Tuesday: Young Alum Q and A with @csuhes grad, Jessica James-Roxby 🤝🐏

💼 What motivated you to pursue your specific internship/internship location, and how did you secure the opportunity?

I recently completed my internship at the Bill Coors Wellness Center. Going into my senior year, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do. Wendy DeYoung introduced me to corporate health and wellness. After doing some research, I realized that it was something I could really enjoy, so I applied to the Bill Coors Wellness Center and was fortunate to get the position.

📅 Can you describe a typical day during your internship? What specific projects or tasks were you involved in?

A typical day at the wellness center involved attending or teaching a group exercise class, assisting with personal training clients, creating corrective exercise programs, and conducting outreach to try and get new members to join. During my internship, I completed a number of projects including Bike to Work Day, a Summer Olympics program, and an 8-week exercise prescription program for a client.

✅ How did your HES education prepare you for the challenges and opportunities you encountered during your internship?

This internship has been incredibly valuable for my future career. I gained insight into the challenges of corporate health and wellness, particularly in motivating employees to exercise regularly. I also developed skills in administering fitness and movement assessments, which are crucial for creating personalized exercise prescriptions.

💡 What skills or knowledge did you gain from your internship that you believe will be most valuable in your career?

When I began this internship, I was quite shy and reserved. I remember shaking during the first group exercise class I taught. I knew I needed to build the confidence to lead any class, so I made that my personal project. By the end of the internship, I had gained the confidence to teach multiple group exercise classes. I learned that being confident and trusting yourself will get you far.

Thanks so much for sharing with us @jessicajamesroxby, keep up the great work 💚 💛 Jessica James-Roxby at her internship
