We are so excited to finally share the reveal of our Servant Leadership Senior Project! 💛

This semester, we have the incredible opportunity to partner with United Way’s Community Schools and serve alongside Dorothy Height Elementary School. Our project is centered around creating meaningful experiences and opportunities for students, families, and the school community. 🫶🏾

But this project is so much bigger than us. It takes a village to serve a village. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to United Way coordinators Sidney and Trey, all of the amazing volunteers who have given their time and energy, and Keith from MercyMed for your support and willingness to serve alongside us. Your guidance, resources, encouragement, and hands-on support have helped make this experience possible.

We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve, learn, grow, and pour back into our community and Participate in Day of Service. This is what Servant Leadership is all about — not simply leading others, but leading through service. 💛

And this is only the beginning… 🌱📚🐾

We always love hosting our friends from the William B. Turner Center for Servant Leadership at Second Story!

We were honored to welcome the Columbus State University first-year students tonight for a Mario Kart tournament — just one of the many stops on their LEO retreat. It was great meeting new faces and reconnecting with old friends.

Looking forward to an amazing semester together! 🏁🍄

Week 2 in Oxford has stayed with me in the sweetest way. The quiet moments, the familiar walks, and the way the city slowly felt like mine are memories I’ve carried back home. It’s crazy how a place can leave such a soft spot in your heart. #mdmcsu28

INT. CORN CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS - NIGHT

Tension filled the entire empty space of the center while custodians walked back and forth completing their nightly tasks.

Sitting at one of round tables is HENRY COVINGTON (African American man in his 20s) who is on his laptop, looking back at his phone every now and then.

On the laptop screen was the Jostens website where he put in the last bit of information needed to deliver his cap and gown. After everything was settled, Henry put in his card information and received confirmation that his purchase was made.

It was at this moment where it felt like another goal post was reached for Henry and as the tension faded away and the silence of the Corn Center surrounded, all he could do was briefly reflect on his college journey.

The road getting to this moment was not an easy one and there were times where Henry felt discouraged or negatively overwhelmed by either assignments or people who did not have his best interest at heart... but as the light becomes clear, all he can think about is the fact that he is almost there.

In two months, Henry would be taking pictures with loved ones and walk across the Lumpkin Center stage as they all cheered for him and his accomplishments powered by the will of God... but there was still work ahead of him that needed to be done.

Leadership at CSU goes beyond titles. It’s about how you show up for others. 💙

Through the Servant Leadership Program at Columbus State, students grow as leaders by serving their community, building meaningful connections, and turning what they learn into real-world impact.

At CSU, servant leadership is defined as:
"Leading through ethical empowerment and service."

From mentorship and community engagement to classes and retreats, our students are putting this into action every day, and their experiences speak for themselves.

Saturday was full of emotions in the best way. I started the morning tabling at CimFest, survived a surprise fire alarm during lunch, and then had a blast doing an escape room with Servant Leadership. I got some much needed catch up time with Hannah and ended the night making the sweetest memories at CARDAWAY Jesus and Jammies. So grateful for these girls and this day!! #mdmcsu28
