We're celebrating local style and Hawai'i pride!

Last month, Pearl City High School students visited FDM to learn about aloha t shirts and explore our Historic Fashion Collection. They picked six favorites, each with its own story!

✨Here are the students' picks:

🚌 1987 TheBus shirt by Iolani: Students loved the fabric and hip pocket.

🌈 1960s–1970s McInerny retro UH rainbow shirt: The rainbow stripes around the hems were a standout!

💛 1960s Kamehameha shirt: Bold colors and gold nugget buttons made this one shine.

🎣 2000s Dietrich Varez collection T-shirt by @reynspooner: Students enjoyed the everyday fishing scenes, featuring barefoot fishermen and others in rubbah slippers.

🌺1970s reverse aloha shirt by Beautiful: Students appreciated the textured backcloth fabric

🕺1970s Sears Hawaiian Fashion Collection shirt: Its groovy vibe and long collar brought a retro flair to the collection!

From everyday island life to local design, these shirts reflect the creativity and identity that make Hawai'i's fashion unique.

As we reflect on Week Without Driving and continue to keep spirits high from UH's Homecoming, we're reminded of the connections that bring our communities together. 💖

Herbs and spices took center stage this week.

CTAHR and the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity (DAB) held a herb and spice conference at the Hawaiʻi Okinawa Center and online via Zoom. Close to 100 commercial producers attended to hear research, extension, and industry updates from a strong lineup of speakers.

Mahalo to Extension Agent, Dr. Amjad Ahmad and the SOAP/DAB team for organizing the conference, to every speaker who shared their knowledge, and to the growers who came to learn and connect, in person and online.

When research, extension, industry, and producers work together, it helps build a stronger, more viable herb and spice industry for Hawaiʻi.

We hope you all enjoyed the Health & Wellness Fair at Campus Center Courtyard and had some time to relax, recharge, and have some fun!

It was so great seeing everyone all try out the VR experience, which happened to be a simulation of the Japanese Garden close to the @east.west.center, and receive blessings.🌸🐟🧘‍♀️🍃

It was a way to pause, check in with ourselves and get a little inspiration for the rest of the semester!

We hope the fair inspires you to explore more ways to support your well-being, including possibly taking our course offering of HDFS 435: Mindfulness & Skillful Living. 💚🌱

We’re eager to dive deeper into the learning, connection, beauty and exchange that unfolded during this year’s ʻUlu Hoʻolauleʻa. To be honest, we’re still processing the magnitude of it all... the people who showed up, the knowledge that was shared, the relationships that were formed, and the many ways this celebration continues to ripple outward.

Today, we’re looking back at highlights from the ʻUlu Festival, which hosted several hands-on demonstrations where the community could explore the many gifts and uses of the breadfruit tree.

From pounding ʻulu poi and making kapa, to carving, fermentation, traditional cooking methods, and more, our demonstrators brought generations of ʻike, creativity, and cultural practices to life.

One of our greatest hopes for this festival was to deepen people’s connection to ʻulu through firsthand experiences, creating opportunities to touch, taste, make, and learn together.

A heartfelt mahalo to @friends_of_amygreenwellgarden for hosting this celebration and to our incredible demonstrators for so generously sharing your knowledge, skills, and aloha. Your contributions helped make this gathering a living celebration of ʻulu, honoring the traditions it carries and inspiring new possibilities for its future across our pae ʻāina.

The ‘ulu festival was presented by @hawaiihta 🍈💚
