Friday: The Hermanus @whalefestival returns from 2–4 October 2026, celebrating the annual arrival of southern right whales along the beautiful Cape Whale Coast. This family-friendly festival combines spectacular land-based whale watching with live entertainment, marine conservation, interactive exhibitions, local markets, food stalls and plenty of activities for kids. 🐳

Saturday: The @ctchildhood museum is hosting a Night at the Museum from 3pm to 7pm with food trucks and refreshments on sale. Entrance is 100% Free and you can look forward to a story reading for the younger children and a scavenger hunt for the older ones. 📚

It’s also the last weekend to attend some fun holiday activities. The search for Captain Nova @libertypromenademall_za is still in full swing and for R20, you can stand a chance to win a share of R6,000 in gift vouchers and instant prizes! 🚀

If your kids love to help in the kitchen, visit @willowbridge.centre for their last weekend of Mooncake Making. The kids get to make their own creations and a little sweet treat is waiting for them once they open their fortune cookie at the end 🥠

Sunday: The Toyota Stellenbosch @woordfees Festival has opened its doors and is inviting young and old for a week of fun, entertainment, laughter and shows for all ages! Check out their full programme and don’t miss out your favourite acts and shows. 🎭

If you’re keen to try something new, visit Cape Town’s only Squishy Making and Fluid Bear studio in Claremont. @artelierbyanum is hosting many fun workshops for kids, teens and adults and you simply need to pick your favourite activity! 🧸

The 2026 Open Book Festival has come to an end and we are basking in the glow of what was an incredible weekend.

While packing away tables, saying goodbye to our wonderful authors, and looking through so many beautifully captured moments, we feel immensely grateful for every single one of you for joining us.

It takes more than just our team, panellists, partners, and sponsors to make this happen.

The days feel like spring already and another sunny weekend is lying ahead of us! So get the kids out of the house and show them what Cape Town has to offer!

Friday: How about a relaxed dinner on Friday at @dienaguil Oude Westhof? They have a huge outdoor play area, little stream and even a soccer field! The kids can play their hearts out while you enjoy your well-deserved afterwork drink!

Saturday: Take the little ones on a fun educational outing at @ctchildhood museum in Rondebosch. Entrance is 100% free and kids can explore different toys, read interesting stories, build lego or other crafts and they can even play outside. Stay for as long as you like! Donations are welcome for this amazing project 🫶

Another fun event is happening at the @baxtertheatre where “Grommels” takes over the stage. The show on Saturday starts at 10am and tickets prices range from R130 – R160. Find out what happens to the last two colours left in a small grey world... 💛

Sunday: Messy play, sensory experiences and chilled farm vibes? You can get all of this at @sensoryseekers_ct at Anna Beulah Farm in Durbanville. Book your play session for the little ones and soak in some fresh morning air while the kiddies play. It’s R100 for 1h or R170 for 2 hours. 🎉

If there’s some energy left, take a walk along the Princess Vlei boardwalk in Grassy Park. See how many different bird species you and the kids can spot, let them climb on trees and enjoy the fabulous views. It’s a nice 4km stroll perfect for a sunny day. 🦅

We finally checked out the Museum of Childhood in Rondebosch and honestly... why did no one tell us about this sooner 👀

It’s not one of those “don’t touch anything” museums — the kids could actually get their hands on stuff, which obviously made our day about ten times easier. There’s stories, toys, crafting stations and a cute outdoor play area - you can easily spend a couple of hours here.

Free entry, easy parking, actually interesting — that’s a rare combo and definitely one worth to check out.

Today we just want to say a heartfelt thank you to the @ctchildhood for opening your doors and hearts to a few of our children yesterday. 🌸 From learning about children’s rights and the history of District Six to discovering the joy found in books, play and imagination, every moment was filled with curiosity, laughter and meaningful learning. You always take us back to what it means to be a child.
