What do pumpkins, toilet roll and French wine all have in common?

Find out on Wednesday 28th October, when we’re hosting a fun evening of spooky-themed activities, all for a good cause!

We’re taking part in the ⭐️Movember Battle of the Societies fundraiser⭐️ , run by @cubarsoc , so everything we raise goes towards it!

How the night goes:
🎃 We kick off with a pumpkin carving. The winning carver gets to ice bucket our President (Amélie) and Social Sec (Calum). Seeing that in Cardiff weather is worth the ticket alone…

That’s not all! There’s plenty more to compete in:

🧙🏼‍♀️ We’ll be judging your Halloween costumes and crowning best dressed, so come in fancy dress.
🏆 Try your luck in the mini raffle, and join our Mummy Wrap, where teams race to turn a friend into a toilet roll mummy 🧻
⭐ Stick around for pres after. It’s BYO drinks, so bring your own and join the fun.

🎟️ Tickets: Members £4 | Non-members £6
Get them here or link in bio :https://www.cardiffstudents.com/events/6545/44358/

✂️ Pumpkin 🎃 carving starts at 4:30 pm - pres post carving
📍 location to be confirmed on our whatsapp

📣 PSA for other societies: if you haven’t signed up to Battle of the Societies yet, please consider it! The deadline is Monday 26th October, and you can find all the info on the Bar Society’s Instagram. We’d also be happy to share each other’s events to help us all raise more.

À bientôt!

It’s results day… meaning plenty of soon-to-be freshers have confirmed their place here at Cardiff. Hopefully we will be seeing many of your faces here at the Bar Society… but just a little incentive for both new students and anyone who isn’t already a member to join (as well as being a huge announcement for our pre existing members)… we are officially beginning to host Wednesday night socials every week, starting this academic year of 2026-7. Take this as your opportunity for a well deserved break from academics, as well as a chance to make friends with like minded individuals in a relaxed and fun environment. All the information you need for now are on this post… but stay tuned for the big announcements coming in September! 👀👀👀

One month ago Aaron Slade @aaron_govtlaw - a student at @culawandpolitics - completed 10 5Ks to raise money for @cr_uk and pledged that if he met his fundraising target he would organise an ice bucket challenge!

One week ago, the icing took place! A number of students joined Aaron in taking on the challenge: Bar Emma Evans and Olivia Brown from @cubarsoc ; Simran Gill from @culawsoc and @culawreview ; and Vanshika Arora from @cuwomeninlawsoc

Aaron also persuaded two lecturers from the School to take part: Dr Joseph Phillips from the Politics Department and me from Law. I thought I took the challenge in my stride but the video evidence suggested differently. I wish Aaron had organised a cake sale instead…

Thanks to all who have donated so far and to Lara Twiddy and her team of Legal History students - Jasmine Thomas, Kyriaki Hannides, Tess Bendall-Jones and Isabella McNulty - for organising and coordinating the event.

It’s not too late to donate:

During March, @culawandpolitics student @aaron_govtlaw completed 10 days of 5k runs to raise funds for @cr_uk

He pledged that if he met his fundraising target then he would organise an ice bucket challenge with staff and students getting iced alongside him.

He has smashed his target with over £450 being raised so far! And so, the ice bucket challenge has been organised for today by Lara and Jasmine - two of the legal history students who were responsible for the awesome food bank collections.

A number of representatives from @cubarsoc @culawsoc and @cuwomeninlawsoc among others have volunteered to take part alongside Aaron - and I’ve agreed to join them, together with a member of staff from Politics.

Come and watch it take place today at 4pm in the park opposite Main Building and also donate if you can. It’s a brilliant cause and an awesome achievement from Aaron.
