Today we commend the coalition organizations that came together to offer a Sickle Cell blood drive on campus and a huge thank you to the many community members who donated!!! Sickle cell blood drives are lifesaving because many patients with sickle cell disease need frequent, ongoing blood transfusions to prevent severe pain, organ damage, and strokes. Some patients need up to 100 units of blood per year to manage severe complications. Beyond basic blood types (A, B, O, AB), blood has hundreds of minor markers called antigens. Patients who receive regular transfusions can build dangerous immune reactions if the blood is not closely matched. Donors from Black and African American communities are nearly three times more likely to provide a compatible match for sickle cell patients, making targeted blood drives vital. Donated red blood cells only last a short time, and blood cannot be manufactured, meaning supplies must be continuously replenished.

Join us this Thursday, September 24 for the Sickle Cell Awareness Blood Drive at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center! ❤️ 🗓️ September 24, 2026 ⏰ 11:45 AM to 5:45 PM 📍 Paul Robeson Cultural Center 🎟️ Donors can receive a $15 Tango gift card, Rutgers Cinema ticket, or FREE T shirt! TWO WEEKS LEFT to register for Collective Healing Circles with @omithecreatrix and @ruvpva! 🔗 tinyurl.com/IAMSEEN2025 This project is an absolute labor of love and NECESSITY—community spaces with Black, queer, and marginalized survivors at the center are lacking within justice work. “Collective Healing Circles: I AM SEEN” is program that has been thoughtfully curated as a special affinity space for us. While it is infused with liberatory and anti-oppressive principles, it’s also designed to be a fun and unique journey of self-exploration and community building! Art has always been a part of marginalized people’s stories, as the vessel of our activism, healing, and archiving our experiences. Play and creativity are sacred to us; this makes activities on learning and growth, more engaging and enjoyable. More about ✨the Host✨: Omi Monét (they/them) is a multi-hyphenate artist that creates experiences with their events and workshops, where people feel parts of them seen that the world told them to hide. Their goal with Collective Healing Circles is to give you a piece of their art—and their own journey of survivorship—so that you can thrive and discover what freedom means for you.
