The day has arrived!!! THE PROBLEM WITH BEING FUNNY IN CANADA - A White Paper Policy Brief I wrote on the state of Comedy in Canada is available. Over the last year I had the great opportunity to research and write this paper and discovered another layer of context that I hadn’t seen before. As we launch this campaign of Comedy is Art I deeply and wholeheartedly encourage comedians to join us. This is our livelihood and the only way for change is through community and collective action. I’d like to thank all the brilliant and wonderful folks @uniforcanada @canadianfreelanceunion and @canadianstandup for your generous support and input along the way. Special shout out to Marc Hollin from the research department. Raul Burbano and @sandyandnora from the CFU. Jenny Yuen, @angeladrewkimelman from. My heartfelt thanks 🙏 to the CASC exec for your selfless dedication and holding the torch. Thank you for continuing to advocate for comedians. @cliffordmyers @cunning_ac @gayafcomedy @laughatroh @joshmenchionscomedian and all the execs past!!! We are on the precipice of great change in our country. We’re known around the world for being funny let’s build an unbreakable infrastructure that supports that and let’s stop accepting second place. Change doesn’t happen by accident it requires years of action. Amen!! https://www.unifor.org/sites/default/files/documents/Unifor-Problem-Being-Funny-Canada-EN-web.pdf

The next few weeks will be a lot of posts around the Comedy Is Art white paper launch. Before we kick off the campaign and start knocking down Parliament doors, I want to give a well-deserved shoutout to the incredible @canadianstandup team. Our present board is a ragtag gang of skillful, talented and passionate performers who love comedy and give a massive fuck about elevating the Canadian comedy industry. This groundwork has been laid down thanks to the founding members and all the previous board directors that came before us and we're laying the groundwork for those who come after. I'm proud of this team. They care. They hustle. They volunteer their time generously. And more than anything they embrace the challenges and obstacles in front of us. Funny enough, when talking about the power of small teams, the person I quote the most is @madflavors_world: "It only takes 3 badass motherfuckers to take over a country" Very grateful for these badass motherfuckers and looking forward to pushing this agenda until this organization reaches its goal of structurally empowering comedy professionals across Canada. Thank you @thisisrobwatson, @laughatroh, @joshmenchionscomedian @cunning_ac and shout out to @tjhale709 who has been a previous board member and massive supporter of CASC. Looking forward to doing great work this next quarter and beyond. #ComedyIsArt #LaughingMatters #CASC #CanadianComedy #CanadaPoli
