Brazilian-German MPB duo Curió Curió blends '70s MPB with psychedelic disco, funk, and jazz into a sound all their own. On this album, which longs for Brazil from somewhere that isn't Brazil, you can vividly feel not only nostalgia for home but also passion and happiness, sadness and loneliness, every one of those emotions.

Last night two exciting acts from the Mr Bongo roster came together at the iconic @thejazzcafe. Only their second ever live performance as a band, what a joy it was to see @curio____curio perform such an assured live show that was full of energy and emotion. São Paulo’s @___ninamaia had the crowd completely captivated with her stripped back first set of the night too. The future is bright for these two acts!

After a few long weeks, I needed something a little fun and spirit-lifting, and Curió Curió hit the spot, particularly with their single “Bem Querer,” which is also my selection for #FortyFiveFriday, hosted by the one and only @marcotossa. Drawing inspiration from 1970s Brazil, their music blends samba, MPB, disco, and tropical sounds into a very modern and infectious fusion. Shout out to @spagboylognese for this recommendation. 🕺
