Our favorite “close to home” Up North spot. The campsites are HUGE and private and quiet. It was a rainy weekend, but it was relaxing. It’s my favorite season and the fall colors coming out were the icing on the cake. We hit up some of our favorite farm stands; loading up on sourdough, baked goods, and fresh salsa. And the dogs, like normal, were just happy to be there. Huge thank you to @cuyuna_range_campground for another wonderful weekend!!

Wheels are supposed to be round, aren't they? Thankfully, the boys @cykel_cuyuna fixed it up quick so TwinMTB could hit the trails before sundown to full send the double black jumpline.

🚐🏕️

We stayed at 7 different campgrounds along the way, and they were definitely NOT all created equal. 😂 Here’s the rundown:

1. Clay’s Jellystone RV Resort
🔌 Full hookups
⭐️ Our least favorite
The spaces were VERY close together and the overall vibe just wasn’t welcoming. It seemed like most people were there for the water park, so if that’s your thing, you may feel differently!

2. Paul Wolf Campground — 30 min west of Chicago
💧 Water + electric | Dump station available
⭐️ Hidden gem!
Beautiful, well-kept campground that feels like a local secret. Spacious sites and surrounded by a nature preserve. We really liked this one.

3. Fort McCoy Military RV Park
🔌 Full hookups | Military ID required
⭐️ Great military campground
Plenty of space, lots of trees and nature, full hookups, laundry facilities, and the convenience of being right on the installation.

4. @cuyuna_range_campground — Crosby, MN
🔌 Full hookups
⭐️ Beautiful!
Gorgeous campground surrounded by nature with a cute town nearby and TONS of activities to do. Definitely one we’d return to.

5. Bismarck KOA — ND
🔌 Full hookups
⭐️ Clean + great amenities
Very clean with everything you need, but the sites and campground itself are on the smaller side.

6. Buffalo Gap State Campground — Medora, ND
💧 Water available | No hookups
⭐️ Location, location, location!
Beautiful campground right in the heart of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park area. We boondocked here and loved being surrounded by the landscape.

7. Glacier Meadows RV Park — Glacier National Park
💧 Water + electric | Dump station available
⭐️ One of our favorites!
One of the most beautiful campgrounds we’ve ever stayed at and SO close to Glacier National Park. We boondocked in the field and absolutely loved it.

Scenes from a weekend away… ☀️🌿🧡

We spent last weekend in Crosby, MN, exploring some of what the area has to offer. I’d say we barely scraped the surface, so we will definitely be back!

This was our second trip with the new (to us) camper — we “upgraded” from our pop-up camper this year to something a bit more substantial and with a/c — and it went really well! The dogs all did great with the camper and the a/c saved us, because it ended up being a pretty hot and sunny weekend.

I didn’t use my camera much over the weekend, just snapping these photos on a quiet morning at camp before the day began. For various reasons, I wasn’t too keen on capturing more photos with the big camera. It was hot and sunny for a lot of the weekend. We encountered some pesky flies on our hikes. And if we weren’t hiking, we were swimming, so not ideal photo opportunities. I’m fine with that though. I have some fun iPhone photo memories and I’m eager to make a return trip to the area! Maybe in the fall? Or maybe on a less sweaty weekend. Either way, it was a fun time and I’d definitely recommend a visit to Crosby!

🌿 Wellness Girls’ Weekend 🌱

Start the morning with a sunrise hike to the top of Miner’s Mountain. Then, head to a fitness class/lifting session at @reallifewellnessstudio or @hallett_center_of_crosby followed by a coffee or smoothie at @mixedcompanyakavahouse or @redravenbike in town!

Then, spend the afternoon slowing down at camp:
bring your current read (or borrow one from our little free library), kick back in a hammock, journal, take a walk or a nap even! 😌

As the sun goes down, break out the face masks, mix up some mocktails, and enjoy stargazing from your campsite.

✨ Bonus idea: Put phones away for a few hours and challenge everyone to actually relax.

This might be one of the most *underrated* destinations in Minnesota for families!

Every time I visit Crosby + the Cuyuna Lakes area, I am totally BLOWN AWAY. It’s still one of my favorite places in Minnesota, and I highly recommend it for a fun weekend getaway. It’s about 2 hours from Minneapolis (and, spoiler: it’s probably going to become your next favorite mn destination!).
