THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES: “This is a message to all Black peoples in America, living as we still are, as a colonized people: Juneteenth was always a radical celebration.” Yesterday, on Juneteenth, we released the Black-Palestinian solidarity edition of the New York War Crimes. Despite attempts at liberal co-option, Juneteenth remains a day to commemorate emancipation, celebrate revolutionary love, and honor the radical subjectivity of Black slaves who sabotaged plantations, organized strikes, and took up arms to secure their own freedom. It is not an accident that the central role Black slaves played in freeing themselves has been all but erased from the historical record—just as Palestinians’ historical agency, actualized through all forms of resistance, is constantly negated.

The issue highlights the connections and historical solidarities between the struggles for Black and Palestinian liberation. We were honored to interview the Afro-Palestinian reporter Lama Jamous about her work and the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the @blackforpalestine organizer Khury Peterson-Smith about the legacy of the Ferguson uprising. The collectively written and edited paper also includes commentary on resisting the pacification of our revolt, continuing the Black radical tradition of the American south, and finding in the land a basis for self-determination.

You can find the full PDF of this edition, along with all (10!) editions of the New York War Crimes to date, in the archive section of our website: newyorkwarcrimes.com.
