Waders on today for a satisfying few hours clearing invasive floating pennywort from the River Wandle. Manoeuvring in suctioning silt and mud involved using several muscle groups that I didn’t realise I had – but worth it for the brewed-up tea and homemade lemon drizzle cake that around 22 of us from the local Parks and Green Spaces River Group enjoyed afterwards, standing around under the trees, laughing and joking in the rain.
(Before and after shots are just one small stretch of many that we cleared)

Colliers Wood! We so enjoy walking and talking with you. This was just last Saturday, when we stopped by Merton Abbey Mills and our friends showed us around the Community Garden along River Wandle.

The Walk & Talk Movement was initiated in green spaces across South London to promote mental health and social wellbeing during the lockdown and pandemic.

Every Saturday at 10.30am, we gather at the @fortyacrecoffee bike before setting off for a leisurely walk around the vicinity. Our volunteers are here to ensure everyone is en route and having a great time. ☺️ All ages welcome, so bring your grandparents, children, friends, pets… and we’ll see you by the bike next to Colliers Wood Station!

Today was the optimum temperature for a baby walk 🤣🙌 It was lovely welcoming more new mums to the group.

I currently have four days to try and complete our mummy walking challenge so I’m desperately trying to get my step count up! I’ve walked 68km this month so far. My average steps have jumped from 2.5k to 7.3k and I can feel my body feeling fitter! Who wants to take part next month?

On a side note: it was so nice to see the maintenance man sorting the paddling pool! Hopefully it will be ready for Tuesday otherwise Merton Council need to update their website.

Spent the afternoon litter picking through Wandle Park. It’s our local and we love it so why wouldn’t we want to keep it clean?!

Enjoyed pitching in today with @cwparksgreenspaces planting a #crataegus tree, along with #sedum , #rudbeckia & #campanula in the #ColliersWood Recreation grounds Memorial Garden.

Look forward to seeing it grow and mature, and coincidentally it’s #worldrewildingday so a #Hawthorn is a perfect choice!
Its a host to tonnes of native wildlife 🐦🐝🕷🌳🐛🦋🪲

Tree from @ntgardencentre so supporting @nationaltrust at the same time. Win win! (Well done Margaret!) 👏🏼

Productive and fun few hours tidying and planting up some beds near the @thecharlesholden and entrance to Wandle Park, and by the crossing to Colliers Wood station today.
